Ok, fine.

IE > Any other browser

Reason: Default browser of all computers.watk If you pretend another one is better, then u have a messed up computer.

As we see in the first bolding, thats an opinion. Its better, thats that hes saying. Next paragraph is a bit different, but that first bolding is his opinion.

In the second bolding, we see some truth. I dont know about mac's though. But theres a bit of "rightness".

In the 3rd bolding we see him saying that pretending another is better means our computer is messed up. Well thats a great idea Mr.Cleo, but I dont think so. I dont use IE, yet my computer is fine.

whys it so retarded, hes right, ie is default and you cant uninstall it. firefox is nothing but a waste of space for people who are to lazy/stupid to not take care of their computer.

First bolding in this, we see your opinion of him being right. Opinions are fun, arent they?

In the second bolding, we see that you say you cant uninstall. Well thats fine, it dosent make it best.

In the third bolding, we see you calling us stupid and lazy. Theres absolutely no proof in this. You think its a waste of space, DING DING! Opinion!

one of the browsers is superior, no opinion involved. ie is faster, supports more html, etc etc

Those may be valid, that dosent make it better. The better of the two is someones opinion. They like one better, to the mits better.

Thanks buddy, shut the fuck up.

one of the browsers is superior, no opinion involved. ie is faster, supports more html, etc etc

They both support the same ammount of html, if it doesn't look right in a browser other than IE, then the CODING is wrong, IE doesn't care if it's coded wrong, it does it anyways, Firefox, Mozilla, Opera etc. do what the code says.... well, there are some exceptions in things OUTSIDE of html (flash, java, php, etc. etc.)

Multiple reasons I find Firefox better than IE:
1) TABS
2) Not as many holes
3) Plug-ins, lots and lots of them..
4) Did I say tabs?
5) A not-lame google search bar
6) It's not supported by microsoft, and to be cool, I can't like anything from microsoft
7) And tabs.. I love tabs..

Two reasons I find IE better than Firefox:
1) It's required for "My Computer" and connecting to networked computers and such, which firefox can't do to well.
2) Every single website out there runs in it *near* flawlessly.

The only reason I prefer IE is because one time I tried Firefox (not recently so it may be changed) and when I closed the main window, all of my downloads closed. That was quite annoying and reason enough for me to say the hell with it. Although I don't like it, that doesn't mean that IE > Firefox. I'm sure it's got some bonuses but the benefits of either apply to different groups of people. So I guess I'm just saying stop forcing opinions on other people.

This is true, but the trick is to open the download manager (ctrl+j) before closing the browser.. then it stays running.

Let's end this ignorance now, MysticalNinjaJesus and Spike.

You boys brought knives to my gunfight. Prepare the cannons!

IE > Any other browser

Reason: Default browser of all computers. If you pretend another one is better, then u have a messed up computer.

All Linux and Mac users don't have messed up computers. You have messed up logic... Think before you make claims. Not everyone uses what you use.

as long as you know how to not Fudge your ie up firefox is useless

Firefox has MANY features that IE can't even try to have. Having a cool "addon" program that blocks popups ineffectively is not that same as having IE block them by itself. Firefox downloaded is also only about 5 Megs. Most people keep an mp3 there in its place. Don't talk to me about wasted space if you have a single mp3 that you dislike enough to not listen to wasting away on the computer. It's not like it balloons to a CD size after that. With 300GB harddrives in existance and 20GB as a tiny harddrive, I promise you won't miss the 5MB.

Can we ban him again for being retarded?

I can't personally, but mattmeck could if he felt like abusing his power. Then again, there is no rule about being ignorant, just rude.

whys it so retarded, hes right, ie is default and you cant uninstall it. firefox is nothing but a waste of space for people who are to lazy/stupid to not take care of their computer.

IE isn't the default, mnj. It's only the default for people who are to(sp) lazy/stupid to not take care of their computer. Install Linux and remove that Windows waste of space.

one of the browsers is superior, no opinion involved. ie is faster, supports more html, etc etc

You just described a reason to not have IE. Linux is faster and superior! No opinion involved! Replace Windows and suddenly IE is not the default. No opinion involved at all: Mozilla is 100% faster on all Linux/BSD desktops. It moves infinitely faster. It supports more html, is faster, etc etc. Also, Mozilla actually supports html. IE doesn't, and therein lies the problem. If they would follow standards, there would be no problem, but because people deal with the inferior products that Microsoft provides, we hear this inane drivel on the internet about how it's better because it's what you use.

Mozilla > IE for all Linux users, hands-down. It's my belief that Mozilla is better in general for ALL operating systems.

Try getting IE to work in Linux. It's not user-friendly, the fonts are screwed up, and the general feel of it is wrong. It doesn't follow the desktop theme. Microsoft doesn't even support it! If you want it to work, it's hard as hell to get operating, and requires so much other crap to be installed and configured. How many of you have gotten Diablo to work in Linux? I have. Can I get IE to work? No damn way - it's all b0rxed!

Then try getting it to WORK in Linux or Microsoft or OSX. The only reason IE is faster in Windows is because it is necessary that it be running for you to open ANYTHING. So it comes pre-installed and pre-loaded in memory.

Reasons Mozilla is better (even on Winblows):
1. Tabs, of course. This should count as 3 or 4 reasons. Until Microsoft realizes how to do the middle-click window switch (if you know what I'm talking about, salutations Linux friend!) that we have in Linux, or multiple desktops or tabs, they will always have slower to operate and inferior products.

2. Integrated pop-up manager. This is not a pop-up stopper. It stops all pop-ups that come unrequested that are on websites that are not pre-established as safe websites. What does this mean? I get unrequested popups to log into my bank, and unrequested popups to take a quiz at my online class, but not porno or anything else. I trust my school's class.osu.edu, but not www.lycos.com.

3. Integrated userspace forms manager. Microsoft IE assumes that there is only one account using the internet on your computer because you didn't take the time to set up multiple accounts for you and your roommate. How is your info safe? It's not. Watch the bank info or your emu password autofill in stars. Mozilla has distinct usernames (at least for the suite - I don't use firefox).

4. Download manager. You forgot where you saved that last file or a file you got 3 days ago? Just open up the Mozilla download manager to locate file. It remembers you, so don't worry. That little complaint about how it didn't save stuff when you closed all the windows - the manager takes care of that now. The download manager is also only one window. What does this mean? If I'm downloading 50 files in IE, I have 50 damn windows. With 50 in mozilla, one window with all of that data. It saves so much trouble if you want to cancel a download.

5. Security. I never got a virus or spyware pre-installed without confirmation from Mozilla. Anyone else want to tell me that they did? I'd be interested to know. I loaded my windows partition and within an hour had to spend 3 hours removing spyware one-by-one by hand because they were so virulent and kept installing and reinstalling themselves as I removed them. Within 1 second, F5 was happy to inform me in RegEdit that the Windows/RUN directory (bootup stuff) had replenished 3 of the 8 spyware programs I had JUST deleted. Another second later, there were the other 8. They were all running as I tried to delete them. Forbes and USA Today expound upon how much safer Firefox is than IE.

6. Cross-platform. Mozilla is the same in Windows/Linux/Mac. In fact, it is possible to use the exact same configuration data from the folder in both Windows and Linux, so that you can keep your data intact. That's thanks in no part to Microsoft - accessible most easily from linux into Windows, not from Windows into linux. The main folder would have to be in a native Windows partition.

7. Themes. Mozilla has themes. Does IE? I don't think Microsoft makes it easy to do, if they exist.

8. Open-source. Can't beat the fact that the safety of the program is guaranteed by an offer of the code. If you don't trust the product, check the code which makes you uncomfortable.

All websites work except for ones where people are intolerant of free choice. If people would follow standards instead of using Microsoft products to butcher HTML codes, then every browser would be superior to IE. I even like lynx better than IE... I don't get spyware from the god-damned text version of the web.

Why is IE better? Ummm, because it's illegally (according to the Sherman Antitrust Act) installed without a choice and cannot be removed. Why is it illegal? Because it acts to maintain monopoly status of Microsoft (being a monopoly is legal - TRYING to stay a monopoly is illegal) in the browser and operating system market. Also according to antitrust laws, no two products can be linked (in order to use this, you must purchase this first, and no other way) like IE and Microsoft XXXX OS. IE should have been offered on many platforms to be legal, and giving it away free was illegal, and installing it without a choice was illegal... Monopolies can't act that way. Microsoft was a monopoly. They didn't even deny it when they first started this IE nonsense.

So it's better because it's illegally not a waste of space? IE IS THE WASTE OF SPACE!! Who would INTENTIONALLY pick IE over Mozilla? I riddle you that! If Mozilla were the most populous browser (which Netscape, its predecessor was until Microsoft broke the law), then all websites would follow the Mozilla/Netscape standard.

I can imagine MS now.

Take these wonderful "features"!
Spyware... Viruses... Cannot be removed... Free like Mozilla... No tabs, but we might put those in to copy them!... ummm... did we mention it can't be uninstalled?? It won't work with some websites that follow standards because we broke it, but we have tools that will break websites so that they'll only work with us. Is that cool??

Who would do that?

Can I get an amen from the choir??

Firefox is faster than IE, has more features, and yes it actually does indeed support more web standards than IE does. My own analysis and every report I have read has shown Firefox to be superior to IE in every way possible except in enterprise situations of course. Saying that IE is the best browser for Winblows simply because it comes with it is a flat out ignorant statement. That is like saying that Winblows Media Player is the best MP3 player out there. :)

Advantages of lynx:

Totally text-based. Insanely fast browsing. Relatively simple to use. Can access lynx from a terminal to surf websites from another PC even if all other browsers on your computer are broken.

Totally secure... Nobody spends time hacking console browsers.

Lynx fits on a floppy drive.

Operating system independent if set up on a remote computer.

Disadvantages of lynx:

No graphics whatsoever.

Advantages of Galeon:

Comes pre-installed on gnome. It's the default!
Multi-platform

Disadvantages of Galeon

Missing features that Mozilla has, such as DL manager, passwords, etc.

Advantages of Konqueror:

Comes pre-installed on KDE. It's the default!
Multi-platform

Disadvantages of Konqueror:

Same as Galeon

Advantages of Opera:

VERY stable

Disadvantages of Opera:

Costs $.

Advantages (?) of IE:

Comes with Microsoft's OSes. Views websites as "normal", according to MS users.

Disadvantages of IE:

Prone to all sorts of security hazards. Cannot be uninstalled. Not as feature-rich as mozilla (missing tabs, assorted managers, etc.)

Voting for firefox. sorry but as a webdesigner i've grown to hate IE. It's terrible about obeying standards and for this reason many sites that look great and are coded correctly look like shit on IE, until you perform certain hacks to make it look acceptable. Too many people put up with the shitty browser we need to spread the word, firefox is superior.

so someone tell me why installing firefox will be usefull or helpfull in ANY way.

I doubt it will be useful or helpful at all to you. You have already decided that you have no use for it, so why bother asking others to argue how useful it might be?

Regardless of what browser you prefer, having a choice is always a good thing. It pushes for adding useful features and removing useless ones.

Arguing that IE is better because it's preinstalled is no argument at all. Go buy a new PC, lots of software is preinstalled that many people don't use.

Personally, I use Firefox in Linux, Windows, and OS X. I like having all my bookmarks synchronized on all three platforms. Also having them in a single file makes backups much simpler. I'm not saying IE is horrible because it doesn't use a single bookmark file, it's just one of the small things in Firefox that makes me enjoy using it more than IE.

Oh, and IE used to come with Macintosh OS X, but since 10.3 Safari has been the default browser which is based on KHTML (Konqueror from KDE).

The only fast thing about IE I saw on the mozilla site was this:

Now available in 26 languages, for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. “I suggest dumping Microsoft's Internet Explorer” — Walt Mossberg, Wall Street Journal.

Maybe you should listen to your government, who urge you to not fuck up your Winblows.
Recent security failings in Internet Explorer have caused experts (Including the United States Department of Homeland Security's Computer Emergency Readiness Team) to recommend that consumers stop using Internet Explorer and switch to other browsers

View these websites to see why IE is unreliable, and why your friend can't load IE anymore.

http://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/713878 and http://secunia.com/advisories/12048/

Read on about arbitrary code. If you log in with only one account, this amounts to being (as we say in linux) rooted. You are 100% hacked, and fall victim to whatever mercy the party redirecting you (only in IE) may have.

These are awesome. Read this:

Secunia Advisory: SA12048 Print Advisory
Release Date: 2004-07-13
Last Update: 2004-10-20

Critical:
Extremely critical
Impact: Security Bypass
Spoofing
System access
Where: From remote
Solution Status: Partial Fix

Hmmm, system access, from remote, with spoofing? Being rooted!? OH NO! Partial fix? Thank god! Extremely critical? Sounds dangerous!

I get these in the mail at school unsolicited all the time. What does this mean? I fix my friends' computers all the time because they have Windows and because they have IE.

Obviously you have no clue about web design or what goes into making a webpage bbum. If you did you would know the frustration involved with IE not being standards compliant, thus requiring you to do numerous unsupported "hacks" just to get the page to show up correctly in it. Then again maybe you do, just an fyi microsoft frontpage doesn't count as a web-design program.

Not to be stirring the fire, just trying to stop it before it gets out of hand. Are we really trying to force feed our opinions down each other's throats? It's impossible, you can't force someone to think like you. So stop fighting and have a simple debate about IE/Mozilla/Netscape/Opera/[insert your favorite browser here], not a flame war, so lets stop before it does or becomes incessant babble about how so-and-so's mom is the fattest.

I have been using Internet Explorer forever, and I barely EVER Get Spyware.

You wanna know the biggest reason people get spyware on their computers? Its because they go to porn sites, and other add-infested sites that they don't really need to be on. I'v been working in PC Repair for only 2 weeks, and I can't even tell you how many systems I have had to restore because of spyware, and the history only shows porn.

Porn may not be the only reason, I'm sure there are others.. But a lot of times its when you click yes on the plugin popups. Don't let other people use your computer if they don't know what they're doing, unless your watching closely.

Rogean, I would agree with you if you told me that 2 months ago.

However, I never go to porn sites. I went occasionally to sites with ads, but there were never any warnings or anything that came up. I obviously knew to say 'No' to the activex controls and the like..

However I STILL got spyware and adware that kept recourring, it was impossible to get rid of. (And with my lack of HD space on my laptop, System Restore was disabled).

After reformatting just before I started working on Evolution II, I switched to Firefox. And I have not gotten a single popup, popunder, spyware, adware, etc.

The ONLY time I ever use Internet Explorer is when Firefox can't display an IE only page. (Blech).

So far I've noticed some images load slower, but cached pages load instantly (which appeared to be loading fresh in IE). I just wanted to make it known that I'm not making the switch because of spyware. After SP2 I haven't received a single thing besides the rare popup. SP1 + 2 were definitely what made XP usable.. but now I love it. I wish there wouldn't be any MS haters anymore :( haha. Anyway, I don't see Firefox as any better really, just different.

My 2 cents

So far I've noticed some images load slower, but cached pages load instantly (which appeared to be loading fresh in IE). I just wanted to make it known that I'm not making the switch because of spyware. After SP2 I haven't received a single thing besides the rare popup. SP1 + 2 were definitely what made XP usable.. but now I love it. I wish there wouldn't be any MS haters anymore :( haha. Anyway, I don't see Firefox as any better really, just different.

My 2 centsSP2 seemed to be working for me and I loved it...

But it continued to miss ALOT of popups and spyware as I put too much faith into it....

(And you still cant beat TABS!)

The feature I like about Firefox the most is the 'adblock' plugin ... Right-Click on those annoying avatars/signatures, click 'Adblock Image', and you never see them again ...

I *do* use windows from time to time because of Linux haters at my school, who make plugins available in Windows-format only (there ARE standards that don't require windows, guys...).

But I never wanted to upgrade from Windows 98. Windows 98 doesn't have the same safety rating. I just don't like having my OS and my explorer in the same file... it's hazardous.

Internet stuff... / My Computer stuff...

Why can't it just be secure?

What I'm saying is that IE isn't safe naturally, because it's linked so closely to Windows.

Porn may not be the only reason, I'm sure there are others.. But a lot of times its when you click yes on the plugin popups. Don't let other people use your computer if they don't know what they're doing, unless your watching closely.

which is why you should just delete all internet explorer icons and use firefox duh. Then you don't ever get those.

yes exactly. firefox is usefull if you dont know what your doing.

Also, I have found a flaw!! When clicking links on www.packetnews.com there is supposed to be a little string copied to your clipboard to make it easier to ask for something in mIRC (or whatever prog. you use) but Firefox doesn't allow this. :(

Thats because they used IE (microsoft specific) code, which is NOT standard and unsupported by anything but microshit. A poor web-design decision on the site creators part, there's other ways to do the same thing.

My vote: Firefox.

I've used Firefox for quite awhile now and i'd never go back to IE. Why?

Well, it's agreed that if you go to porn/advertising websites with IE, you will get a whole heap of spyware, etc on your computer. Go to those same websites with Firefox...I'd bet you wouldn't get any.

Then there's those sites with annoying pop-ups....with IE, sure, you could download an external program to stop SOME of that (I tried quite a few)...but wait, it's already in Firefox and it actually works.

Tabbed browsing...Well, I don't even see that in IE.

Customisation;
Firefox - Loads of extensions and themes to choose from.
IE - What? Where do I get those?

Mysticalninjajesus - I do not use Firefox to be a l33t h@xor that r0x0rz j00 w0r|d and thinks microsoft is t3h n00bz0r (I am making fun of you here, just so you know)...I use it simply because it is superior to IE in each and every way and I got sick of having annoying pop-ups and spyware (although granted it was probably someone else that got it on my computer...which wouldn't have happened if I had of made them use Firefox).

How about you try it and then give a reason for why IE/Firefox is better?

Edit: By the way, if anyone has Firefox, I like how you can customise quite a few settings by typing in about:config in the address bar. (I never knew that before now. :) ) Anyway, it seems you can change a few settings in here and Firefox will actually load pages even faster than IE (for all those complaining). http://www.computerbb.org/about150.html

Try what's mentioned here, with the exception of that last one, which has been removed in the latest versions.

Even if you would have to go into the Internet Explorer options, hah, guess what Firefox does it automatically.

What? Huh? Is that a pwn I smell? It is!

He's right, it's stupid to install another browser. My computer had tons of spyware and adware because of IE then I got netscape which doesnt work with certain movie extention files.

But then I got a program that completely whiped my slate clean of adware and spyware and it works beautifully. If I ever screw it up again I can clean it up with either...

adaware6.0

or

hijackthis.exe

Don't be angry at me because I made fun of you . You know you had it coming with the comments you were making.

Anyway, I assume that means go to them with IE? How about....no.

Spike...go try Firefox, much nicer to just not have spyware...instead of going through the process of cleaning it up each time you get it. Even Adaware wont clean up some of the stuff out there.

Spyware Preventer ...my brain, spyware comes from accepting things from sites you shouldnt and installing p2p networks and other exe's
Antivirus ...never have let an antivirus program run in the background ever
Integrated Search Bar ...no thanx, having google as my home page is plenty fast for me
Tabbed Browsing ...why not just open a new window.. all tabbed browsing is is a waste of window space to me.

Spyware Preventer ...my brain, spyware comes from accepting things from sites you shouldnt and installing p2p networks and other exe's

Wrong again, Google got busted for automaticaly installing spyware a wile back, and many other *normal* web sites do it too.

Antivirus ...never have let an antivirus program run in the background ever

I agree with this

Tabbed Browsing ...why not just open a new window.. all tabbed browsing is is a waste of window space to me.

Tabbed brousing takes up LESS window space.

Yeah, how can a tab use up more space? It's a TAB: one flap in the current window.

MNJ, I'm done arguing with you about this stuff. I don't think anyone can change your mind on anything. At this point, I would be insane to expect you to use your mind when I argue with you.

Windows needs a middle-click. In linux, switch within a group with middle-click. it's so much faster than alt-tabbing your way through all windows. Tabs just control your groups that much faster, by integrating them into mozilla/netscape. It really does save you a ton of time when viewing pictures in a gallery (open in new tab over and over), and get back to the original windows in a snap.

On slow connections, it's nice to open 3 tabs in the background as you read the page you're currently on. They open up without popping up a new window that takes your focus from your current page.

It disapears when you have only one site open, perhaps you are thinking of the quick launch bar? IE has the same thing, but you can slide it around, which is utterly useless, because then it always is a menu which is what favorites is for..

Best things

1... updates all your open websites at once
2... loads up all your chosen websites on start-up
3... massive decrease in spyware etc

was extremely easy and quick to install

have been told to change from IE to Firefox for ages... could never go back now

How come... if the Firefox programme is so small... does it have these features that internet explorer doesn't?

Possibly because of that hidden autodownloadspyware4u.exe file in the IE directory. :D

http://techrepublic.com.com/5208-6230-0.html?forumID=10&threadID=163233&messageID=167703 5
The Mozilla Foundation doesn't have the option of refraining from disclosing issues. Firefox is an open source project. That means that when issues are found, it's by the general public, and such issues become public knowledge very quickly. Firefox will never have that problem of later admitting to "undisclosed" issues.

Furthermore, IE is inherently less secure because of its blithe use of security-destroying functionality such as ActiveX and, more importantly, because of its close integration with the operating system. Firefox will never have the problem IE does with every vulnerability becoming many times worse by virtue of the fact that it can more directly affect the OS. Whether or not Firefox will ever match the sheer number of vulnerabilities in IE (which I doubt, since MS routinely decides that vulnerabilities aren't worth fixing), the fact still remains that when a vulnerability in Firefox comes up it never directly compromises the OS itself, whereas with IE it's difficult to find a vulnerability that does not directly compromise the OS.

There are good reasons that people like myself, who do computer security consulting professionally, have better things to say about Firefox than about IE.

By the way, I also did a search on google for why IE is better than Firefox...All I got were websites with the title "Why Firefox is better than IE" with that search. I guess just about everyone disagrees with you mysticalnoobjesus.

Getting back on track. I just yesterday had an experience on why Firefox > IE.

My site had some really strange issues that were completely unexplained, firefox, etc displayed it PERFECTLY.

Text was randomly disappearing. the backgrounds were wiping clean as you scrolled the page. It was so freaky.

Anyways, only IE did this. after some research, i found that MS's retarded browser requires you to do a certain "hack" to set some sizes on some divs to 1% (which in normal browsers which display this correctly, fux it, so you have to hide it from all bug IE with a hack)

conclusion. IE sucks, Firefox wins

here's a wonderful link outlining the gayness of IE.

Here is why Firefox is better than IE. Or at least an example of it.

http://d20.no-ip.com/ie.jpg
Here we see internet explorer displaying a page. Wow, it screwed it up and is displaying it way too damn wide. What a surprise! Oh, and look at the ads sputtering about on that page.

Here we see firefox (displaying the page correctly!!) AND, with the adblock plugin, I disabled all of those ads. Whatdoyaknow, Firefox has less ads than IE!

Firefox's percentage gain helped cut into Microsoft's dominance of the web browser market, cutting its market share to less than 90 per cent. OneStat reported in November that IE's market share had slipped to 88.9 per cent in the third week of November, down five percentage points from its share in May. Mozilla-based browsers, including Firefox, rose to 7.4 per cent, up five percentage points from May.
