Those were the good days. When EQ had a sort of a real "mystical" value to it.. anyone know where to find more old SS of pics?.. Id kill to play on a server that had EQ the way it was before Luclin..

When Luclin was released, it also released the new optional UI (which wasn't customizable right away) but still had a choice between the two because at the time, the new UI was rather memory intensive.

Remember having to stare at your spellbook and not see anything that was going on to med? =P

A while back, a co-worker of mine showed me the original EQ beta. It was semi top-down view a lot like Zelda

If i'm remember good, (and i think i am lol)
New UI style come with Velious extension
With luclin, come the new skin model for character :)

I do know that the Old EQ UI was still available when Luclin came out. You could either use the Old "Classic" UI or do a full screen "Velious" UI which was basically transparent windows that you had the ability to change the color of and that was about it.

According to Allakahazam's Patch History Page (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/history/patches.html) Luclin went live on December 4th 2001, the New Interface went live on July 24th 2002 and the Classic and Velious Interfaces were extinct on January 9th 2003

Which is about how I remember it happening because I distinctly remember the new UI not coming out until sometime after Luclin was released but before PoP was released.

Yeah but you had the option to disable it for a few weeks.
I was able to play with the old ui for at least 5 more patches and then they forced everyone to use the new UI.

Holy bump of death... well far be it for me to not chime in on this one. I started playing around March/April 2001, right after Velious. I definitely had no new UI - started with the clunky old marble looking one until someone showed me the way, to this UI

http://members.cox.net/raahvinmt/images/EQ000002.jpg

- which I used until <whenever> the newer UIs came to being. As you can see by the image number, this is actually the 3rd screenshot I ever took in game. Oh, the old days... never be the same.

Hmm?...I was using S3dspy the other night and it looks like NOTHING was ever deleted in the game!
If you look at bmpwad.s3d and all the other bmpwads you will notice all the bitmaps from the very beginning seem to be there! Even the loadscreens!
And then using eq model viewer it looks like all the old character models are still there too!
So maybe some day just for fun I will try to make a nostolgic looking client..

Your right it's all there to use...if you know how.

When you start the game up just hit ok on password box then wait a couple and it will say cant connect then hit ok again and it will start up , I believe F1 is fullscreen mode. Have fun

how u change to 256 color?

John Adams
11-09-2006, 03:44 PM
I think some of the newer cards do not even let you chose 256 anymore. You have to go to Settings/Advanced/Adapter, and pick one of the "List Modes" settings that shows 256 color. Looks terrible too. Glad I only did this for a few mins. :)

Now my question is, wtf is this oldeq? Are you saying this is what EQ started like day 1? I was not around for that - thank god. This looks almost as bad as Ultima Underworld 1 - circa 1992. :)

If you are running windows XP you right click the .exe and go to properties then check off run in 256.

The was the very begining for EQ. Of course the rate of new technology back then was so rapid that it evolved into what we know as EQ way before it hit the shelves.
