I don't know if anyone is aware or if anyone cares, but Everquest seems to be available for Linux. It is through third party software at http://www.transgaming.com. It uses wine and I think it uses some emulated windows drivers and registry work. It could be nice for anyone who only uses Windows for Everquest (like me, oh and that piece of junk scanner I don't have linux drivers available for... canoscan 620U... Why do they have scsi drivers and not USB!?). Check out some of the screenies.

The cost to join as a subscriber is $5/mo. I think you need to join a minimum of 3 months to get the official binaries, but $15 seems rather cheap to not have to install Winblows.

Check out the other stuff you get when you get the windows game emulation tool:

Their CVS binaries work just fine, and their normal WineX releases, and you don't have to pay a cent unless you want to support the transgaming project.

I forget what I was looking at that required the official version - I think it was Wine's game installer. It might work without it, but I don't know. I'm going to give the thing a shot when I get home.

I support Transgaming. I think they do a fine job making games work with Linux. Tomorrow i'll throw my support to EQEMU. I don't use it anymore but know that it will go to good use.

See, I think you might have just ended the legacy of Windows on my main system. EQ was the last thing I used on winblows that I couldn't do (well) on linux.

Woot :worship:

Tugurce, I've seen that sign (in your avatar) or one like it in Japan once, when I was very young, about 8 or 9. It said "Nor Smorkig" and that was it. Had the drawing been a little better, I would have understood sooner.

Hehe, I had to make it small cuz my last avatar was WAAAY too big for my tastes. :D

You can find plenty more interesting translations at this site:

That's where I'd see that Smorking sign before :P

It's funnier when you see it in person :) Go over there someday - they have NO IDEA how funny that stuff is. My dad saw one that cracks him up still:

Photographers executed here

It was a sign advertising someone taking your picture.

Sorry for hijacking this thread :P

I saw a sign in Singapore saying "Please don't urinate in the streets"

Funny stuff!

Any news on that ? (i mean not the funny translations, EQ on linux)

What cvs branch to use ?
Does EQ work with plain wine ?
Do we need to go to Transgaming and get a (pay) package ?
Any special setup / hint for running it ?

Thx

Yeah, make sure your nvidia card driver works. I got the install to work on free Transgaming winex cvs, but I couldn't get the game to run because my video card driver was rejected by the kernel repeatedly.

I've seen it work, and know for a fact that some of our eqemu posters have it working.

/small bit off topic but
but I couldn't get the game to run because my video card driver was rejected by the kernel repeatedly. Did you try and go into bios and enable "Assign IRQ for VGA"? This was the culprit for mine not working, for about hmmmm 6 months, and TONS of reading hehe.

I still have the same computer and GFX card, so I'll check it out. I swear I changed everything ever in my BIOS.
