This is for you if your patcher displays an error saying:

Run-Time Error

I have tested this with 2 computers in my home. This is what is common with the computers :

1. Windows XP SP1
2. EverQuest patched to latest with all expansions incl. LoY
3. Both computers on same lan behind same firewall

This is what is different :

1. EQ installed in different folders (hence.. the error message points to the current EQ installed folder and NOTHING on the server wich was suggested in an earlier thread..)
2. One machine running without any mods of any kinds in UI
3. Installed the MDAC posted on news on one of them

Both computers have excactly the same error (xept for the link to the EQ folder where EQ is installed)

So.. anyone have any USEFUL tips for this problem? Does not seem like it is only me that have this problem.. So.. ?

Oki.. found something out.. please someone respond to this :

My firewall logs this :
EQEmuPatcher v1 N 2003-03-06 14:24:52
And it is trying to access this :
patchdata.foreverhacking.net - 80 180 284 - http TCP GET http://patchdata.foreverhacking.net/patch.dat

Now.. a quick dns lookup at my house gives me this :
[root@dns root]# dig www.foreverhacking.net

; <<>> DiG 9.1.3 <<>> www.foreverhacking.net
;; global options: printcmd
;; Got answer:

And a same for patchdata :
[root@dns root]# dig patchdata.foreverhacking.net

; <<>> DiG 9.1.3 <<>> patchdata.foreverhacking.net
;; global options: printcmd
;; Got answer:
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NXDOMAIN, id: 45004

As you can see.. the patchdata "subdomain" of foreverhacking.net is non excistant. Anyone give me the current IP adress to connect to, i would be happy to do it. I tried to directly download "patch.dat" from www.foreverhacking.net , but no avail.

So.. there is apparently nothing wrong with the patcher itself and the error message with patchsrv.dat, but rather a fault at connecting to the actual site where the files reside. Either the files have been stopped (illegal copied versions of .exe files or similar), or foreverhacking.net have just removed it due to bandwith or whatnot.

So.. can ANYONE at all verify that they are able to actually patch now? ie. Remove any "patch.dat", "Patchsrv.dat" or "patchedtemp" files residing in eq folder, and run the patch.exe again.

Please.. :)

Go into your ..\everquest dir (wherever it is) and open up the file patcher.log. Notepad will suffice.

Post what it says here.

Here it is, but to my eyes it looks kinda confusing and is not searching for any patchsrv.dat

I think you may be onto something. Everyone's having trouble finding patchsrv.dat...yet everyone's who does work doesn't look for patchsrv.dat, just patch.dat.....maybe this could be the lead to the fix that we're been waiting for.

Ive never touched the patcher, the developer that wrote that is gone temporarily due to Real Life (tm) issues. Can anyone comment on the contents of the patchsrv.dat file? I'm guessing it's just a location of the patch server. I'm wondering if they're are multiple versions of the program floating around, one bad one, one good.

I have had the problem as well. I never made any change to the program. Used the same one with the same install both before it worked and after it worked. v1.0.1 (aka never redownloaded it)

At no time during when it was not working or when it was working or after it was working was this file either resident on any of my systems, logged in the firewall or logged by the router.

Though I could field a guess, I would probably get flamed for it, as to the nature of this file.

Looking at the patcher.log I see very little difference between one that fails with this error and one that worked fine other than the time of day and whether or not you get the http: 7500 error.

here is my patcher.log:

Hope you can see where I get my ideas from when assimilating all of this information together and applying Arthur Conan Doyles theories to said information.

I am getting the same problem. Brand spanking new install of both EQ and EQEMU patches. Running Win XP - SP1.

I created a patchsrv.dat file on my local disk and it got alittle further but bombed out cause it obviously didn't have the right data in it. Looks like its just been left out of the installed I guess.

So it is my DNS server that does not work? Have you even looked at my post?

If i type :
ping patchdata.foreverhacking.net

i get :
Ping request could not find host patchdata.foreverhacking.net. Please check the name and try again.

Should this happen?

This is my patch.txt file :

I have the same problem : patchsrv.dat cannot be found

- I noticed I have this patched.temp file (in html format) saying:

Bad Gateway
The following error occurred:
A DNS lookup error occured. The host was not found.
Please contact the administrator.

This file is recorded/refreshed everytime I tried to run patcher and got the patchsrv.dat not found error.

- Win 98se, EQ with expansion up to PoP, patcher files under the right directory, cable modem broadband connection, connected to cable modem through a surecom router with NAT, using DHCP

- I tried the same patcher in another machine earlier, using Win Me, ADSL connection, also behind a router with NAT and NO PROBLEM

- ping foreverhacking.net, ping 204.44.214.99, browse foreverhacking.net were successful (except sometimes ping timed out 1 out of 4 pings)

- ## pls note ## I got a mdac_typ file from my friend (think it installed some kind of SQL files) before I could even run the Patcher. Without that SQL patch, my machine wont even recognize the patcher's first instruction (forgot the exact error mesg)

The patcher is kindof wierd. Things that can help fix the problem are:

Did you follow these instructions (http://forums.eqemu.net/viewtopic.php?t=6318) and install mdac_type.exe

Did you actually run mdac_type.exe or just download it?

The patch server is geting LOTS of trafic, try agin later.

ping.exe foreverhacking.net

tracert.exe foreverhacking.net

The contents of patcher.log
The contents of patchedtemp if it exists AND seems to be text

Is patcher.exe in the same dir as eqgame.exe like it should be?

If patcher.log says you downloaded a file ANY file, then my guess is either heavy net trafic, or not installing mdac_typ is the problem.

Also here is a MDAC checker (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=8F0A8DF6-4A21-4B43-BF53-14332EF092C9&displaylang=en) util from MS

It dosen't, the dat files are downloaded each time you run the patcher.

it's still asking for patchsrv.dat! (even with mdac_type installed)
nobody can fix it?

for some reason my patch.dat is particularly small...

I am having this problem now also, scoured this board for weeks and tried everything the patcher will not work, keeps asking for patchsvr.dat no matter what.

IS there a fix for this i'm missing OR is there a place where i can just download what the patcher usually sends??

Please nearly three weeks i've been trying on and off, this is my first post on it cause i'm lost.

Let me explain a few things

1) Patchsrv.dat is built INTO the exe. What it stores is the patch server data. But it is a resource inside the patch.exe itself.

2) We have it doing "weird" things to keep people from piggybacking on our system to download old files as much as possible. It does a connection to an IP address itself, that is why proxies DO NOT WORK WITH IT!. It opens an IP address to the patch server then does its own downloads, it is NOT USING INTERNET EXPLORER. Yes, the hostname it is trying to request does not exist. It is designed that way. It does a DNS on a whole other domain to get the ip of the server, does a direct tcp connection to port 80, then does its own HTTP/1.1 handling.

3) We dont know why some people are having problems.

I have had no problems with it on Directly connected Windows 2000 workstations (Latest Service Pack) and Windows XP Pro (Latest Service Pack + hotfixes). My machines are not behind a nat firewall device or any type of proxy server that my ISP makes me go through (like some dsl/cable providers do).
