Making your own item guide?? does it exist?

Is there a good guide or guides out there on editing items. I am specifically looks for a few things:
1. Adding custom stats (Duh)
2. A list of what each texture appears as
3. How to edit the database so a player begins with the item
4. Saving and getting the items working for all players

There is no such guide. However:

Edit values directly in the items table. Some fields will not be so obvious, while others hit you right in the face.

2. A list of what each texture appears as
There is no such list, but jdank might have a fairly lengthy list. For weapon models, use kaiyodo's model viewer (google for "kaiyodo eqemu")

3. How to edit the database so a player begins with the item
Don't know offhand, never worked with these.

4. Saving and getting the items working for all players
Make sure to restart the server after editing items, otherwise you won't see the change.
