Server Up! Yay...but..can't enter world
So I got everythign working, made character go to enter world (the only options are tutorial and crescent reach as I make Drakkin almost exclusively) and first try ..i skip tutorial and enter CR...I get a big black screen at the time it shoudl be entering the zone. I thought maybe that's bc CR isn't one of those 30 zones that are loaded (still need to figure how to change that) so i close out and restart EQ, and select enter tutorial, this time I get instant blackscreen Disconnected, good ol' linkdead.
The only thing I can think of, and it's just because I don't know any better, is that in the config and login.ini settings it says to use one port and in the client's everquest.exe it says to use the other, could that be the issue ? (5999 and 5998 ) or does it have something to do with other ports that didn't get set up correctly somewhere? Firewall is off on the server altogether, I think I have it on on this PC though it's quite possible that's off too, but I can connect to the public eqemu servers no problem, and enter those zones of course. What am I missing here? So happy this is finally working, but couldn't find with Search any of the posts I'd seen asking about this issue (well none that got answered anyway) Do I have to just go in and force entry into one of these 30 zones that are autolaunched? or is it a port thing? and how do I make other zones launch that aren't those 30, or do they launch on their own when you try to enter them? The 30 zones are likely to be at least 95% zones that I will rarely even use due to the Drakkin thing, unless PoK and other PoP zones are part of it. (can count on one hand the # of times each I've entered another race's home city in the 1000+ days played on my eqlive acct lol) I'm sure it can be changed as I know other servers start out in zones that don't even exist on live, but how? is it something I can do with PEQ if it's not custom? if not, how do I make it custom if I used the autoinstaller, not the manual one with all the authoring programs? Sorry for all the questions, really all asking the same 2 things: how to fix the blackscreen/ld, and how to launch other zones when i start the server. Thank you :) Update: Made random barbarian to try entering halas, no dice. no locked up black screen, no black linkdead screen, this time I got backtracked to the poll request screen I see just before server select, so it shouldnt be related to zones being launched, but still don't know what to do with it. *Second attempt entering world same barbarian, i got the locked up black screen.* |
Ti/SoF should use port 5998 in their eqhost file.
All newer clients should use port 5999. |
Unless you created 30 'static' zones - which would require knowledgeable action on your part - the zones should spin up automatically.
When it says 30 zones, it really means 30 inactive zone hosts (each one capable of becoming an active zone upon receiving a command from world server.) So, say each of those hosts are suffixed with an id (zone_1 thru zone_30.) You start out in Crescent Reach and zone to Plane of Knowledge - zone_1 is 'cresent' and zone_2 becomes 'poknowledge.' After some additional zoning around, you follow a return path where zone_1 is now 'poknowledge' and zone_2 is 'crescent' This is how the dynamic zone spawn system works in EQEmu. |
Ok I get that, why I could connect to public servers I used the right port, but should I just make the server config also use 5999 then, since every client connecting will be the same? Pretty sure it had me set it to ip:5998 in config but it shouldnt really matter there, and the issue isnt logging in. That also has me a little bewildered...client is rof2, but looking at the server box, it said I was using sod.
Should ports be an issue client-side, or just server-side as far as firewalls go? Is that probably my problem, or should I copy and paste the server activity during to find the answer? I know this isn't totally off the wall issue like my horrible internet causing install issues like it did. And thanks much for explanation of the 30 zones aspect. |
You should only adjust port info in the client eqhost file.
There are a myriad of technical data as to why things are setup the way they are. Your server reporting SoD client for RoF2, I'm sure, is very specific to the login server and not world or zone servers. |
my firewall was on, turned it off to see, still disconnect when enter world. Where should I be looking here? Reminds me a lot of when live servers would go down or be reset but not be a patch. server's not locked, but could it be another just turn it on thing? thought I saw that somewehre in some writeup for an install, but not in the autoinstall.
edit nevermind the writeup mention somewhere thing,i found it and it was about lockign a server so no one else can log in. |
Make sure that your zone files don't have any aberrant entries or that you don't have zone crash logs - those are easiest to check first.
For the generic pid named zone files, checking a few should suffice if they're all the same size - 30 can be a pain... If something were failing at that stage, all zone files should reflect the issue. If you're checking name-based files (like the one you should be getting by clicking enter world at charsel) what is in there is more telling. If you don't have a 'named' zone file, that is telling too. |

Not seeing anything out of the ordinary for zone spin-up...
Code:
[03-27-2018 :: 17:45:44] [Zone Server] Zone::StartShutdownTimer set to 60000 The zone is shutting down after one minute of inactivity. Post your config file (with name/password info redacted) and we can go from there. |
Great, Will do that in a few min, thanks so much for helping.
I didn't change anything during install, and only changed server names and login server after, so not sure why a setting would be messed up, but shutting down after a minute would certainly do it lol. EDIT: also, the time is weird, is that server time or EQ time? Server time would be WAY off if that's the case, might that also be an issue? Code:
{ |
and this is what happens when i launch zone.exe within seconds, not even close to the minute in the log. relaunching zones at charsel to see if its even possible to catch it before going down...results tba

Now, I'll be honest and say that I thought this
Code:
[World Server] New Zone Server connection from 534ec298-7967-4078-9510-f5db6f7b1 of your world server tcp ip ("192.168.10.120") That could be a misunderstanding on my part..if anyone else can input on that. (I thought that world and zones were able to run on separate ip's...) This, however... Code:
[World Server] Attempting autobootup of halas (29:0) If all of the above is normal, I'd look at firewall settings... If not, then I'm missing something... |

127.0.0.1 is the example IP in one or the other setup guides, not mine. I changed all the oens I knew about to my IP, but that one is coming from soemwehre, and that's wrong. As you can see, all the IPs in my config are mine, not that one, and I oculdnt login if my login one hadnt been right. So, where did THIS IP come from? |
That could be the standard for the new start-up script..not 100% sure.
I don't think the script uses the old zonelauncher binary..and that could be what I'm thinking of. I was going to say that not having your chat and mail servers set shouldn't cause a login issue... Try adding "192.168.10.120" as host to both of those and see. I added a ucs server check to the login sequence not long ago and would be interested to see if that's affecting it. |
