Upgrading Server

Just a quick question its been over a year since ive updated my server. I was wondering what the basic process is? Im assuming i just need to git pull my source folder and recompile the server and copy the new files over. After that do I need to go into my C:\EQ\Source\utils\sql\git and source in all the updates past a certain date for optional and required? any help would be great. Also I know my server was compiled before lua was introduced. I still plan on using perl instead of lua and I can select that in the recompiling part. but my issue is I know a few things change for scripts for ie item handins ect is there anyway to change the code for the scripts for all the scripts that use the old code or do I need to manually go in an change every one.

You've basically got the idea with sourcing sql updates past your install dates . Updating the database is problematic- make a backup first and experiment. This won't update zones/npc's/items for more content though.

I might be worth just trying to source the new peq database without deleting characters/accounts (the readme in the file says how) once you've compiled the new source (need to do on Visual studio 2012+)

If you do an svn update on the quests and maps folders then it will update automatically. You will need lua as lots of them have been converted over (it may even be *most* now).

It can be a frustrating process if you are not very familiar with how the Server/DB is made to operate these days. I, too, update infrequently and often run into strange problems along the updating process. Like vsab said BACKUP! Or even clone your HD if you have the resources to ensure you can at least fall back on your old setup to get your EQ fix.

You are welcome to PM me for info on fixing bugs as you come across them and I will try to help you as best I can.

I'm glad to see you're back Nightrider, I hope these changes don't slow you down.
