Whats with the gofundme's?
Just curious.
I do it... I do it for the lulz. No deceit here folks! https://www.gofundme.com/ghanjas-trip-to-pa-2v8wjd52 <grin> But seriously? And is Mort's sanctioned or ? |
Oh I see it was closed. Suppose that answers that.

His is legit, despite Mort's background he's trying to sponsor raising funds for the community.
We could actually use it to put towards bounties for larger projects that people wouldn't want to do otherwise, such as Shared Tasks, Inventory overhauls, Netcode overhauls etc. |
I hate the idea all around. There's already a donate button on the front page of this site. If somebody wanted to donate, there's the way to do it.
We've seen in just a short time the can of worms this opens. That's to say nothing of the questions that will invariably come up as to who gets the money, who decides, etc. I appreciate the thought Mort had. It's not a bad one. It just turns into a mess rather quickly. And that's to say nothing of the expectations people have after they actually "pay" for something. Edit: While I do like the bounty idea, it seems like an admin starting that bounty per-item would be a better solution. No? |
I like Mort's idea.
I don't like Astal's idea after I did some web searching and found out he's just a drug addict looking for a free handout. |
Incentive to get components done that others are not working on doesn't necessarily seem like a bad thing. Although one would hope this would be tightly controlled (not sure how all those rules would be laid out).
There have been times where the eqemu project was lacking certain developers time / skill sets. For an example I had been gone for a period of time and came back to eqemu to find out it had lost the ability to let clients zone at all beyond the initial login (no #zone, zonepoints didnt work, etc. it had been that way for over a month and seemed the team members might have been stuck on the issue). Not personally looking for monetary compensation for what I have done anyhow, but it might give other people incentive to work more difficult problems *shrug*. |

issues with products/services wanting my money and not realizing my expectations. I've always had this attitude "If my wallet is paying for it, then you better have something thats worth it." BUT, what's being contributed by the devs is FAR MORE than what my wallet could even afford. Nobody's asking for a pay cheque or putting a price tag on this project, they do it all for free and as far as I am concerned, what has been done and contributed up to this point so far, should be more appreciated than it actually has been. Any donations now, should be an appreciation for what has been done in the past, not so much the future. |

authorities started bucking down on that. In one case, a female was charged for taking donations through that gofundme for an "alleged" cancer treatment but the cancer didn't exist, let alone the treatment. |
The gofundme thing really needs more clarification and probably me officially posting and handling it along with clearly defining the bounty stuff.
If implemented right it could do really well. If implemented and gone about wrong it can be distasteful and tacky. Mort is just seeing what kind of support he can get, I'm not going to mess with it myself until later. |
Boy it got shut down fast before i even read it HA HA
