Making a new server, what do people want?

Hello!

Me and a friend is currently making a new EQ server, its up and running but right now its just a normal server with higher exp rates.

What do you guys want on a server? do you want it to be custom? PvP? etc?

Feel free to write anything and ill see what I can do.

Somehow you have to compete with all the other servers out there and they all have a higher population than yours does. There are plenty of pvp or custom servers already. You are going to have to come up with something that is so compelling that it is more fun to play than servers with hundreds of people on them..

Yeah, not trying to compete with anyone :) Just made a server for people who wants something else or want to contribute on what they want on the server :)

Well I have been seeing people asking for GM powers to try them out so if you give people GM powers then that would make a few people happy.

GM Power servers have little to no playability.

Everyone gets bored in 30mins.

Now an interesting idea would be to have an ascension system, where when players hit max level + banked AA's they can choose to ascend, which will unlock certain commands.

Hmm, That actually seems fun.

I can agree with that. Little while ago, just for fun, I temporarily put up a "goof off" server with 40+ GM commands simply for
people to screw around with for a few days. It wasn't anything permanent. There was very little interest in it. I didn't care
anyway, it was only for a few days. My main work here is geared at totally legit content, regardless of interest, haha
Got a few weeks left to go on it yet.

How about a server called Benjamin Button. You start max and delevel to zero. :)

Uleat 03-09-2017 04:05 PM

That's actually pretty funny!

GRUMPY 03-09-2017 04:08 PM

Haha, didn't someone make a post about some kind of server idea where you go back to level 1 when you die?

Uleat 03-09-2017 05:07 PM

Yeah..but, I think the idea is to gain 'negative' experience and work your way down :D

GRUMPY 03-09-2017 06:00 PM

Oh definately, I understood that concept, I've seen a few ideas of "deleveling" servers posted but I wonder if players would
be in a race to get to the bottom, just as much as they do to the top, haha

Uleat 03-09-2017 06:28 PM

This isn't as good as the 'buttons' concept...

But, you could always do client->SetLevel(RND(1,100)) on leveling :P

Actually a random level might be more fun (in a crazy way), keeps the suspense going, haha

That's exactly how MUD's worked. So that is a tested and proven formula, people still play MUD's 30 years later.

How about raid content that is 1 groupable.
