Looking for enthusiasts to set up new progression

I am looking for others who have a desire to work together setting up a progression server. I would like to have a round table discussion about what each would like to see included in the server, and then be able to move forward with our ideas!
Any thoughts or ideas are welcome, and i look forward to others responses to this topic!

Thank you,

Ask yourself one question: What are you going to do that P99 isn't already doing better?

Shakespeare : Hello Mr. Theater producer, I would like to write and stage theater productions, can you help me?

Theater Producer: Ask yourself one question, What can you create that betters the Greeks like Sophocles or Euripides?

Shakespeare: Well, um, I'm not trying to be those guys, I just want ...

Theater Producer: Nonsense, be off with you..

Shakespeare: Guess I'll just go hang myself now.

I never said i was going to do it better, but i appreciate the replies! I do think P99 does a good job with their server, but there is definitely some things that they could do different..

Yea, dont let some of these guys with high post counts discourage you, folow your dream, and who knows, maybe you will be the next Shakespeare of eqemu..

My question serves one purpose. Every progression server that has gone up against P99 has lost. Unique ideas flourish. If you want to compete with someone on a particular front (say trilogy progression) you need to have a reason for a user to choose you over them. They have a dedicated team of developers and massive support from the community, people who don't even know this site (eqemu) know p99 exists. What's your vantage point?

And while I appreciate the Shakespeare reference, I don't need to commit any significant amount of time to watch a play (nor does it take any user-interaction). To be competitive in an online game requires a much higher degree of commitment.

As I mentioned above: Getting dedicated players is hard if you compete with a more popular server. I ran the server that p99 dethroned, so I definitely understand first hand. When you do your round table really pay attention to what issues people have with p99 or other progression servers. Try to do something better, that way you have a selling point.

I rather have to agree, if everyone thought like that there would be a hell of a lot less servers out there. I heard plenty of negative thought when I created my server. I guess I could had given up at that point but I am not one to give up.

I would still say that having a clear vision for what you actually want is pretty good advice. At the very least it means you have something to say every time someone logs on and asks where the hub is.

Having a clear vision is important. Sticking to your guns is just as important. You will have everyone and his brother try to get you to change your server, stick to your vision.

Just being an alternative to p99 will surely bring players.

I think p1999 is a fine server, they have put a lot of work into it. With that being said, p1999 is not for everyone. Some people do not like the community that has rooted itself there.

P99 isnt' a progression server, so there is one difference.

If there were enough interested players, I would love to see a test of tiered progression. I doubt that it could be pulled off in the emulated community. But that is a good example of something different.

It wouldn't be impossible

Everquest Live will not be around forever, as soon as it becomes more of a burden than it is worth they will end it. So I welcome every single private server that comes along, the more the merrier. The more players, the more bugs will get reported and fixed.

KP emu had an excellent tiered progression, and a first rate server! Then they opened up backflags at 25$ a pop and the server crumbled.

On another note Id LOVE to help you in any way I can! Plz pm me with future details. I've played through a lot of the emu server all the way through to the end. A top priority needs to be pacing. You don't want player-base rocketing through to endgame too fast having left for want on accomplishment. This is not to say "slow exp" but make sure you lock each tier of progression firmly and tight.

A great example of progression is zippzipp. His sever is well planed and implemented. If you choose to go that route then the next question is "box or bot". If bot, then you'll have to do better than zippzipp.
