Server set up - having latency issues..
Currently running 2 PCs on the same network. 1 PC is set up for the server with windows 10 while the other is set up with 12 of my characters running on isboxer.
I have everything up and running just fine but when I did some testing I realized each of my boxes are running between 200-500ms latency. Its very noticeable when trying to have characters autofollow me. I have boxed 12 on live servers just fine so I assume it is a server issue. The server is running on a wireless card through a wireless router but pings at a constant 20ms. Are there some settings on the server I am missing that is causing this high latency? Windows firewall is disabled.. edit: Should also mention that I am using the eqemu public login server. |
Sounds kind of like an upload issue. Your wireless card might not have enough throughput to handle all those connections at the same time.

I am also considering renting a dedicated server. I have some experience with windows server and rdp. Does anyone have suggestions for dedicated hosting companies for under 50 a month that offers some version of windows server?

if its all local, you don't need the isp bandwidth. if your router has (2+) gigabit ethernet connection and you are close enough with both, that's the way to go.
you 12+boxes should be fine local, even if wireless, really. maybe "G" might be slow with 10-20? 70/10 would be for anyone connecting through public emu loginserver. i have no idea what that would break down to. 70-100 connections? 128kb/s should be enough for eq and then some i'd bet? |
Well the issue lies whether or not his wireless can handle 12 connections going out. Might be an issue with the router or the wireless. Honestly try a direct connection instead of wireless to the router. If that solves the latency problem then you know it's related to the wireless on either the router or pc
