Server starts but can't zone in.
 
Hello, I'm a newby when it comes to servers. I can get my server to start and I can log into it with a client, but every time I make a character and try to log in it says, "Entering The Mines of Gloomingdeep." I can change the start_zones file and it will show the zone I added ( I tried Gfay, The Arena, Mistythicket) but no matter what it's changed to the initial log in for a new character says "The Mines of Gloomingdeep."

On my world.exe dos window it doesn't display any errors. But I do notice that I don't have a zone.exe popping up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Are you unchecking the Tutorial box when creating a character, or is it displaying that even though the new character zones to the intended zone?

You need to have a zone booted (zone.exe process, or eqlaunch.exe) to be able to log into the game. World is used for char select -> world and login <-> world communication.

eqlaunch works and comes up. I can make and select characters, but no matter what zone I use as a spawn point it says zone unavailable.

Sorry, I meant was the tutorial button unclicked. That's not the problem though, so nevermind.

Then the zone server(s) aren't starting up properly. Post some logs.

It seems like you're missing some SQL updates, try sourcing from 2014_07_10_npc_spells.sql onwards.


EDIT: These files are located in your source folder, mine is this: C:\EQ\08-30-2014\utils\sql\git\required

I was definitely missing some stuff ( No duplicates ), but nothing that is allowing me to zone in. I have the same peqdb as you also, my 2014_07_10_npc_spells was the same ( I assume it's the most up to date version ).

Edit: I'm starting to wish I had done this initially on a Linux server =P

You sourced those updates into your database? Just having them sitting around on your hard drive isn't enough, you need to apply them.

Yes, they're applied through sql.

Edit: I went through them all again just to make sure. Maybe I did something wrong?

Most files were duplicates, but I had an issue with the newest spells [2014_08_18_spells_new_update] it gave me an error:
Error 1054 (42S22): Unknown column 'field191' in 'Spells_New'

Edit #2: I'm no longer getting an error report, but I still can't access any zones...
