EQ2Emu Respark
I wanted to provide an update on the EQ2Emu project as it has some renewed interest lately. We have made some great strides over the past few months with focus in mind on stability, functionality and usability.
Full Login Server has been made public (vs previous minilogin limited to 5 users). Numerous crashes both client/server side have been resolved, new features are being added, most notably support for a mapping and nav system (same eqemu uses). A play test server has been staged to see the progress taking place and test/identify bugs: http://cutpon.com:3001/en/Guides/HowToPlay An installer has been made available so you can even setup your own private EQ2 server in roughly 15 minutes: https://eq2emulator.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=4903 The expectation of our group at https://zeklabs.com/ is to get EQ2Emu up to speed and then offer an EQ2 PVP server experience (rules TBD). The same code/database will be available open source (on http://www.cutpon.com:3000/devn00b/EQ2EMu/ or through the installer). Lastly our discord is here: https://discord.gg/j92Ay9H EQ2emu main discord here: https://discord.gg/VkVt6Ck Hope to see some further interest in the project! |
EQ2Emu June 2020 Update
It has been 2 months and to clear up a lot of the confusion consolidation has been taking place.. the numerous links now reduced to these four that can be navigated for how to play/install instructions via website/wiki and resources to troubleshoot/get help (wiki/discord).
Website : https://eq2emu.com Wiki : http://eq2emu.com:3001/ Git : http://git.eq2emu.com Discord : https://discord.gg/j92Ay9H Recent highlights from late April-June: - Housing is now a functional feature - A good number of the 'classic' world has navigation pathing generated to prevent walking through walls/objects. - There is still lots of work being done to get the EverQuest 2 release candidate client (circa 2004) working as well. - Database updates are being made daily to fix zone points, quests, npcs, pathing, etc. The full changelog on the coding end is found on the wiki here: http://eq2emu.com:3001/en/Changelog |
Thought I would share some videos of some recent additions completed by LethalEncounter, the far journey from the original EQ2! Supported on not only the circa 2006 Desert of Flames client, but also the Altar of Malace (AoM) client from 2015

I installed both the server and client. (for local play). Seems to be running fine. I never had anything to do with EQ2 before, so just wanted to check it out. It's an interesting new world, both client side and server side.

Thanks for checking it out Huppy glad you were able to setup hopefully without too many issues! :)
Just to update we had a post put out on eq2emulator.net about what has been done this year, as summarized as possible since it is pretty extensive. 0.9.0 Codebase as of October 21st: - Entire base project now open source to allow anyone to run a full fledged eq2emu project (login was previously restricted). - Large number of stability, performance, resiliency fixes - Mapping (line of sight, heightmap), Navigation Pathing (avoid walls/walk up stairs, etc), Water Region support. Use the page https://eq2emu.com/playontest.html to understand how to change eq2_default.ini to the appropriate login server. |
I checked that out too after Huppy took the plunge :D
The only issue I ran across with the installer was trying to install it on a computer setup to run EQEmulator. Since my database runs as a service (starts at computer bootup,) the installer couldn't start EQ2EMu's database on the same port. Simply stopping my db service allowed it to run successfully and I had no further issues. |

I ran into the same issue with the installer not working on my machine running PEQ. I have been fumbling with this the past 2 days and have had no luck getting it to work right and am about to try on whole different machine to avoid this. Can you tell me what you had to stop to get this to work? I am installing on a W10 machine. Thanks much. |
Right-click your task bar and select `Task Manager` ..
Click on the `Services` tab .. Then find the service called `MariaDB` .. Right-click it to show the stop/start options. EQ2EMu's database doesn't appear to TSR .. so, it shouldn't interfere with starting the service back up. And, iirc, you will need to re-start your EQEMu database service once your finished since it doesn't appear to restart itself on boot-up. |
Thank you for your reply. Mine must not be set up as a service as yours is so I could not go that route. With my limited DB knowledge I ended up firing up the EQ2 setup on a separate machine and everything appeared to work right out of the installer. I might mess around with it more to see if I can move it over onto the same machine thats running PEQ but thats another project =)
Thanks again for your useful insight! |
The service name may also be `mysql` or `mysqld` .. mine just happened to show `Mariadb`.
