Not able to connect
It's been years since i played eqemu and little rusty but feel like ive done everything needed to play again. Im able to get to the server screen but trying to connect to any server just closes EQ to desktop with no error
heres my dgb file Code:
[Wed Apr 01 11:56:39 2015]00000:Starting EverQuest (Built Jun 8 2010 16:44:32) |
Ive tried 2 UF clients and the Rof client from steam but still not able to connect to any server..Any ideas?

eqhost.txt looks like this right?
[LoginServer] Host=login.eqemulator.net:5999 |
Yes, im able to see all the servers listed. Its when i click connect on one of them my screen goes black for a second like its going to connect then my EQ window just dissapears.

I have seen this issue before, have you played on a custom server in the past and have custom files for those servers? I would suggest in uninstalling those clients and installing a fresh copy. Also make sure the server you are trying to connect to, has that client support. Lots of servers do not have ROF2 client support, and it will have the same behavior you are seeing.

I havent played on a single server with these installs. all 3 are fresh as of 2 days ago. I get the same results with the 2 UF clients and the Rof2. Ive tried to connect to just about every top server on the list with the same results.

See what version(s) of directx are installed, then do a forum search for keyword 'directx' - there's several topics intermixed among
the results. You might also try editing the eq config file to start in windowed mode, and possibly bump the resolution down to a known good matrix (i.e., 800x600, 1024x768, etc...) I'm surprised you're getting a straight drop to desktop with no error message box. Double-check the 'Getting Started' faq here: http://wiki.eqemulator.org/p?Frequen...etting_Started Someone posted a UI issue with a 'clean' RoF2 download in the last few months..if I can find it, I'll post a link. EDIT: Since it seems to affect UF as well, you may want to check the other computer's firewall settings. |
Thanks for the replies, im just at a loss. Ive tried all the lower res settings, tried the fixes for dual/quad cores. When you say check the other pcs firewall are you thinking im trying to connect to a local server? Im just a player trying to find a server to play on.

I think the answer to your question was yes - the edit comment does seem to imply you're connecting to a local custom server :)
I've seen this before with my buddy's computer. But he was getting an error about port 9000 failing to connect and it was on my server host side. There was also a message in the DBG log about it. In your case, it appears that the client thinks its working properly. My server is bigtime under construction but it does support ROF2 if you want to try and connect. It would at least eliminate the client version being part of the problem. My friend that's logging in is also using ROF2 so I know it works from external IPs. It's called MarkusDaBrave's ICEQ Server. Side question - If you let it sit there, does it eventually give an error message or do you just stay in limbo? |
I dont have the option to let it sit there. I highlight a server, click connect and the game just closes to desktop for the UF installs. Just tried to connect to your server with a fresh Rof2 from steam and soon as i hit connect i crash with an error
Code:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH |

ok i dont know wtf happened. but i restarted my pc today and now i can connect just fine with the rof2... Go figure, gonna try UF version here in a sec once i set it up again
