Out of Box PEQ, restricted to classic

Hey all,

Very new to EQEMU. Just a simple question to set me straight. At first glance, if you read about all of the work that was required to fork the PEQ DB and create something like, p1999, it's always regarded as being an 'exhaustive' amount of work by multiple people.

As a dad with limited time, I'd love the ability to play classic with say, MQ2 and a 6 box by myself.

The nieve me wants to believe that if I started with a PEQ DB, and simply turned off races/classes/expansions I didn't want, I'd basically be content locked to classic.

What am I missing here? What other 'exhaustive' activities would be required to content lock me to classic, assuming I did NOT need any actual classic values or mechanics, simply the raw content.

Thanks in advance,

If the only player is yourself you can probably just ignore the out of era NPCs/Quests/Tasks/Loot.

Otherwise you would need to go through and remove all of those things on a case-by-case basis, which would take time. Even ignoring stuff that is pretty easily removed like defiant armor and fabled drops, the various trade skill revamps add a ton of out of era drops to practically every mob in the game.

Redo some zones.. LS, MT, EC, WC, OoM, HPH.

Restrict all zones from later to higher gm status.

Remove out of era items.

Change spells to 4th and 5th level increments instead of every level.

Adjust xp. Change pets power and die upon zoning or invis.

Remove out of era npc...

Really the effort you would put in, if your just playing yourself, you could minimize what changes and just be strict... If you get an item that's out of era.. delete it. (Black alloy etc).

I'm not really sure but you might be able to get old client spell file from another classic server, then import it into your server... There is likely more to it such as editing the scrolls but it would save some time.

I've always thought of investing some time into updating a client to classic for myself but it's just not as enjoyable without others... Not to mention you will cheat. No matter how strict you think you will be.. you will cheat. First time you wipe all 6 chars and start looking at a long recovery time.. you'll summon those corpses.

Next thing you'll add #zone ability so you don't spend 45 mins traveling which will turn into your way to escape death on a bad pull.

Well a lot of it is simply predicated on even KNOWING what was classic (or taking the time to research it). When I started my SK on my solo bot server I legitimately was surprised when I went to go purchase my level 9 spells to learn how much spells have changed (I had only ever known hybrids getting their spells at 9, 15, 22, etc. as I started my paladin on live in 2000 and that has always been ingrained in my head). Had I started EQ in say, Luclin era, I would not have even known that spells like cease and desist were not part of the Paladin's original stun lineup.

You can make it like PEQ and limit it to up to velious really easily. If you know what you are doing you could probably set up a server like that in about half an hour or something. But the difference between those classic zones in PEQ era, and those zones in actual 1999 to 2002 or whatever, is a big difference. And getting all this set up is said to be hugely time consuming. Changing so many loots, xp rates, removing various NPCs and mobs etc. It is a huge job, and like they said above, the specifics on this stuff can be really hard to find. But yeah if you don't really care about how accurate it is, you could set up a PEQ type server in no time.

Sounds like a lot of work but it also sounds like a ton of fun. Would you be so kind and share the files here when you set it up, S0lusek?
