Returning to EQ and wanting to setup a server
 

Hey all. I have been browsing all around the site and forums and there is so much here. I and about 20 friends are looking to run a private server. Nothing super great. Just a simple setup and play type deal. Can someone provide a few links to get started. I will do all the reading and stuff myself I just need a few links to get me started on what client to server to grab that we can setup and play.

Also if you have some links on scripting and developing that would be awesome. I am developer as well and would be interested in modifying some stuff at some point.

Find AKK's Windows Installer... very quick and easy. Installs everything you need.
Open a few ports on the router some minor configs and you should be up and running in about 30minutes.

There are plenty of servers around with a whole host of different configs. Shameless Plug > http://karanaeqemu.weebly.com/ ... but you can you whatever you want on your own server which is how i started too!.. any questions i'm happy to help.

Thanks all for the info. yeah it was definitely easy to setup. I think the the overwhelming part for the new people is what server to use with what version, ect... I got my server setup and clients can connect. Now I am looking for how to raise exp and loot drops but will dig around until I find it.

Ahh that's all in the Rules_Value spot in your database. It's a very good place to start tweaking. Download http://www.heidisql.com/ put in your server info.. by default.. database name: PEQ password is EQEMU host: 127.0.0.1 (or local)... find the PEQ portion then scroll down to find Rule_Values table... click the DATA tab at the top... then find what you're looking for.. happy tweaking! P.S. youll need to stop/start your server to reflect DB changes.

Need some help. My server was working just fine. I went and changed the values of Character:EXPMultiplier and restarted and now when trying to connect I get a 1017: cannot login to Everquest server. I changed the values back and still get error.

If the starter values are .5 is X5 going to be 2.5 in that value? Just making sure,

You most likely changed more than one value.

Yes 5x .5 is 2.5

Check worldserver logs or the window and see what errors come up

Hey, do a search on 1017 there are a few fixes here on the forums.. some points to a database error to firewall ports.. changing a value in the database for xp wouldn't do this. Like Excuses says, see what those logs say

Most of the logs in the logs folder are empty

I am getting this on one of the windows though when someone logs in

I did a search on the 1017 several times and most of them are port issues which is definitely not the problem as it was working fine. All I did was change the two entries in the DB for Character EXP to 5 and then restarted and now starting to get the error.

Are you playing on a LAN, or over the internet?


EDIT: If you're running a login server, you should have 5 windows up..otherwise, 4..

I will check tonight when I get home but I am almost positive it is 5. 4 Noral windows and 1 blue icon window. I rented a Windows VPS and having it run on it so it is not a lan. We are connecting via the external IP.

I can see the server when logging in. When I click Play everquest it delays a few seconds then gives the 1017 error. The server sees the client connect.

I got it figured out. I added <Address>my external ip</address> to the eqconfig file and it worked. Te quick install does not have it.

I also got exp x5 working. Is there a column to increase loot drops by chance? I might have missed it in the ruleset table.
