Project Omens
I started a new server thread for something that was a simple experiment, but it has
become a long term project, as I feel more serious about it now. Even though it's a project that's just getting started with lots of work to do to for development, the work will continue with anyone who feels like playing on it. I am not concerned about attracting a player base right now, but for anyone who does log on, it's goals are going to be very strictly driven into the OoW era, including content, loot, NPC's, etc., as development moves forward. If a player finds out of era items or loot, be forewarned, it may disappear without notice. Something you see today, may not be there tomorrow, or for that matter, 3 months from now. Forums have been setup for player info, getting started, support as well as posting updates about the server's development progress. Please direct all support questions there : http://projectomens.boards.net/ NOTE: Server has been rebooted from it's former name on list (Alpha OoW) Thank You for your patience :) https://image.ibb.co/dU5HG7/Forum_Post_1.png |
Sad to see you give up your other project for this waste of time.

(I am that capable) Some even think a keyboard and mouse is work, haha. But it's the laziest job in the world (to me) :P Carrying 100 lb sacks all day or wheeling concrete around is what I call work. This is relaxing meditation that I can go for hours on. I know time is a factor for some, but I own the clock on the wall :) Why would a server that's specific to me (this one) be a waste of time ? Most always assume, that the infamous "population" is the priority for putting a server up for public play. I only have 2 interests in EQ. Either fully era specific, or fully custom. No grey areas for me, but I am going to have both, even if it kills me, haha |
By the way, if anyone is interested in keeping an eye on the work progression going into this
project I have a changelog page setup on the server forum site. Here is a direct link to it. (No sign up required) http://projectomens.boards.net/board...ogress-updates |
I’ll keep up with the server. I hope you have fun with it. There’s a lot that goes in to era-specific servers. Take a look at P99, they’re as close to classic as anyone has ever been, but even to this day they’re still updating, changing, and fixing things. They have a team of several people that are working together to do this, and it has still taken years to get as accurate as they are. Doing this as a lone-wolf is going to be super challenging unless you have 10-12 hours a day for a year to dedicate.

time on my hands now than average people. 10-12 hours is an average day for me. To make a long story short, I busted my spine awhile back and it wasn't caught right away. Took 7 months for me to find out, (further disc damage, etc) but in the end, I'm retired younger than I should be. I'm not glued to a wheel chair or anything, but I am definately glued to this puter now, haha |
Just wanted to mention, the forums I setup for the server are not limited to only players on
that server. Discussions can be started there, regardless of whether one plays on it or not. I don't want to be that "closed minded", ;) I have to apologize for a mistake I made when I set the forums up. The "guest posting" was supposed to be disabled, but I didn't realize I overlooked that, until I saw one today. It's been corrected to it's intentions now. Also, the server forums main function of being there for support topics and equally important, the need for players to gain info before they choose to logon to the server. Today, I made a little change in the ruleset to encourage this practice by setting the required level for chat to 5. It's not a matter of just visiting the forum for the client files, it's important to read the rest of the info, so you don't find yourself logging on to the server with a level 1 toon, asking questions already answered on the forums site. That info is for player benefit, not mine. I appreciate your patience and understanding. :) |

Makes a test server for you. You didn't like the name, you wanted guild hall and lobby. Keep drakkin. Keep defiant. Keep it updated past OoW. |
Server was briefly down while ISP was doing something stupid <shrug>
My 175 connection was down to 9 Mbps, so I had to patiently wait until the slow spell from ISP wore off :P It's good to go again. |

server forums. It's been re-organized, (categories, etc), but also some settings have changed and a couple of sections are not viewable by non-forum members. They will however, be able to view those sections after signing up on the forum, which is just as simple of a procedure as here. ;) The changes I made are more focused on the server being in development and, for more practical reaons to reflect on that. I appreciate anyone's understanding and having patience with me. Thanks :) |
Well, server has been up for two weeks now, but i find something fascinating
about the fact it's a regular type of grind, without all that modern QoL one commonly sees, but in that two weeks, one of the few active players has one of his single toons up to level 58 already without having the privilege of boxing a group. No auto skills/spells, no custom porters, no gear vendors, OOC regen disabled, no exp boosts, etc."Most" out of era amenities kept out of the game. Maybe higher end content will put limits on the toon, but he still likes to solo as far it can go. (I think he mentioned he likes the challenge). During future development, the high end of the game will have mobs toned down to a one-full group doable status, but with difficulty. But the server will maintain it's ruleset including max 2-box, regardless of population (0 or not). It's fun to watch a player enjoy the challenge as he does it himself. No fear. |
