Just a couple of questions.

I am fairly new to this, only having been told recently invited by a good friend that is running a server, about EQemu. And while I am playing with him, I may at some future point, want to "try out" some different servers, just to see what they are possibly like.

I have a two questions. One, it seems that some servers need to have additional custom files installed to one's client program. By installing such files, will this then make your client incompatible with other servers, running a stock client? I have an updated complete "Underfoot" client with no missing files as my current base.

Secondly, what servers are as like "live" EQ1 as run at near a present day ( or close as is possible ) setup? Not really interested in the p1999 type server, as I remember what EQ1 was like back then, at the beginning and have no real desire to do that. Also, I apologize in advance, I probably should have posted this in the support section *smacks head*.

Thanks for your help!

Rin

PEQ is what you're looking for.

as far as custom files, yes. you'll need to back up your originals before you overwrite anything or you'll more than likely run into issues elsewhere.

Alakamin is also "regular eq" up to the end of Luclin... then it degenerates into something magically dungeon-crawlish.

And.. it does not require any special downloads, it works "out of the box" with all the customization being done on the server side rather than through custom files etc.
