I don't have it running on a machine with any important information, (bleached the machine, fresh XP install), but by every check I can think of it...

Keeping data of any sort that's important to you is never a bad idea. Even if it doesn't provide immediate benefits, you'll never know what will come 'down the pike' next when someone is struck...
