He's probably using an older database with new executables. for example, recently there has been columns added to spawn2 (923_spawn2_enabled.sql) and a few days before that was to npc_types (898_npc_maxlevel_scalerate.sql).
This will make problems if not present.
If you have a fairly new database, you can look in "source/utils/sql/svn", and update you database with the sqls there.
