Default magician focus items

Did searches for this, but couldn't find anything specifically related to my question.

Holding the magician focus items (shovel of ponz, torch of alna, etc) do not increase my pets "power".

Everything on the items looks fine, and an item editor they correspond to the correct focus and click effect, yet they do not work.

I found a post by seveianrex http://www.eqemulator.net/forums/showthread.php?t=26517

1. Not sure, haven't tried. I think this is tied into some info in the spells_us.txt file, but don't quote me on that.

2. No. That's all done client-side.
