Default Error 1017 on Desktop and not Laptop

So this has me stumped.

I'm getting the 1017 error after not even being able to log in for the longest time from my desktop.

-Laptop logs in fine from my wireless.
-Desktop was getting (A connection is required) message.
-I tried copying my laptop's working install to my desktop and the same thing happened.
-I finally managed to get my desktop to let me get to the log-in server. ( I port forwarded the 5998 and 9000 to my desktops IP ) Not sure why this changed anything because my Laptop has no setting in my router (never added any had it like 6 weeks)
-Start to connect to a server (any server) the screen blinks and goes back to log in.
-Did a clean install to a different folder and getting the same error.
-Turned off AVG no difference.
-Rebooted PC no difference
-Tried in safe mode with networking (Not an option because of no 3d support)

Any ideas on what I can try?

When you connect your laptop to the wired connection, are you using the same physical port?

I'm not a network guru, and I don't recommend port-forwarding as a solution..but, you will need ports 7000-7100 forwarded as well.
(This explains why you can't get past the login server.)

If port-forwarding solves your issue, I'd look to your router. Of course, I'd expect you to have other connectivity issues as well..not just EQ.
(Do you have NAT turned off? It may be required for wireless connections, but not wired.)

Woot a Bert player! (That was my live server)

I don't have those ports open. I'll give it a whirl.

No, I used the cord from the back of my xbox and put it in my laptop. I may switch ports on the router and see if anything gives. Someone on the Project 1999 forums was saying that I thinks it's more of a Windows issue than EQ or Routing. Other things I've read said it was network. I honestly have no clue right about now.

NAT is enabled. My router equipment hasn't changed in about 6 + years. I was able to connect on the same cable and port of the router before I built this new PC.

It wasn't in my 1st post but I also am running the program as admin.

(I was a benchwarmer in <PR> for a little bit. I played with R/L friends and left when they did...)

Are you trying to connect to P99 servers?

I've bypassed my router now and went directly into my modem. I guess at this point its a PC issue of some sort for sure.

I've been digging through my ini files looking to see if there were any weird settings or anything. This is getting frustrating.

Yes, Project 1999 is my goal, but ultimately I cannot connect to any servers from my desktop. The thought of possibly reformatting sucks.

Ahhh, good ole Prophecy correct? I never did any "end game" until after it was past being current. Only guild I remember the name of that I was a part of was <KoET> Knights of Eternal Tragedy during the Luclin era. Which we were about 20 - 30 members most and didn't raid a whole lot. More of just a social guild.

This part of the dbg.txt doesn't look good.

I read a lot of issues regarding AMD dual cores. I wonder if there is possible something with my CPU. However, a 8 Core Optimizer doesn't exist. I've got the only 8 core CPU on the market not a ton of support there. I'd hate to thing I upgraded out of Everquest. lol

Oh, my god no! Lol!

<Phantom Raiders> :P

I know that p99 has some issues by reading their forums. I'm wanting to get more info to see if it's in our code..but they have enough custom
code to make it really difficult...

The dbg.txt message seems to go back to at least 2010 on their forums.

I think, ultimately, it boils down to packet loss..but the problem is where exactly...

As far as the router and udp, someone in irc mentioned they had to forward those anyways.

If you're bypassing the router with no luck, my only guess would be to make sure that any av/firewall software is set to allow those ports.
Even if it's disabled, some software can still block those ports, so you'll need to manually register or open ports for your game.

(They do have some posts/guides on their site about m-c cpu's as well.)
