Default Issues With 1002:

Hello, all. Maybe not 'all', but certainly any of you who've taken the time to read this post =P

My issue is that after moving to the 1002 build from 992 (with an update of the database in between), that my character will load to character select, log into the world, and then immediately go linkdead every time. I know that it is not a connectivity issue, because I'll be connected via VNC to the server PC (in the other room here at the office), and be watching everything happen on the server as my character goes from 100% to 99% to 98%...

Here's the server log from one of the many attempts:

Quote:
[06.20. - 10:26:15] [WORLD__CLIENT] New client from 192.168.0.109:49428
[06.20. - 10:26:15] [WORLD__CLIENT] GilmoreGirls: Logged in. Mode=(CharSel)
[06.20. - 10:26:15] [WORLD__CLIENT] GilmoreGirls: LS Account #87697
[06.20. - 10:27:58] [WORLD__CLIENT] GilmoreGirls: Attempting autobootup of velketor (112)
[06.20. - 10:28:01] [WORLD__ZONE] [30] Setting to 'velketor' (112)
[06.20. - 10:28:01] [WORLD__CLIENT] GilmoreGirls: Entering zone velketor (112)
[06.20. - 10:28:02] [WORLD__ZONE] [30] [velketor] Setting to 'velketor' (112)
[06.20. - 10:28:02] [WORLD__CLIENT] GilmoreGirls: Sending client to zone velketor (112) at 192.168.0.200:7029
[06.20. - 10:28:02] [WORLD__CLIENT] GilmoreGirls: Client disconnected (not active in process)
[06.20. - 10:28:26] [WORLD__ZONELIST] Removing zoneserver #30 at :7029
[06.20. - 10:28:26] [WORLD__ZONELIST] Hold Zones mode is ON - rebooting lost zone
[06.20. - 10:28:26] [WORLD__LAUNCH] zones: dynamic_30 reported state STOPPED (1 starts)
[06.20. - 10:28:38] [WORLD__LAUNCH] zones: dynamic_30 reported state STARTED (2 starts)
I've been running the 992 build for quite some time now, and have never experienced any issues with it like what I'm having now. I made sure to update to the newest CVS of the PEQ database before installing the binaries, so there shouldn't be any issues there, either. Since myself and the players on our server were all being disconnected immediately upon entering the zone, I reverted back to the 992 build just so that we can play. I was hoping to get some suggestions of what to try before I play with the 1002 build again.

Thanks for any help, and please post with any suggestions or requests for more specific information. The fact that I have a working 992 build speaks volumes about what *is* working, it's just a matter of finding what isn't working in the jump from there to 1002.

I ran it with both my self compiled version of 1002 and the precompiled binaries and was able to zone in.. so we know it's possible to get to working.

Perhaps try running a zone without the launcher and see at what loading line it crashes, would at least narrow down where the issue might be if anything.

Ok, finally I think I can be of use! I was having this issue yesterday....

...make sure you copy your spell files to the directory or it will look like it loads, but as soon as a char connects(and npcs want to buff)...*crash*

I found the fix to it. It was because I thought I was so smart, I didn't have to double check anything.

Well when you install a new version
-Create directory / expand into it
-Copy quests
-copy plugins
-copy maps
-COPY the 2 spell files to the root directory!!!!(this was issue)
-copy the .xml for your server
Fixed =) Thanks so much.

Umm, if you were running the 992 rev, you shoudl of already had your spell files in place, otherwise you would of already had this error.

Just out of curiosity though.

Not if he's like me and installed into a new directory in case you wanted to revert back to 992.

Precisely. I didn't just overwrite the 992 folder with the 1002 files.

Are you guys compiling, or are you using the Win32 Binaries posted? If you use the binaries, you only need one folder (c:\eqemu) with the binaries - just overwrite old with new binaries whan they update.

Binaries. But I don't like a situation (like what was happening), where the server wouldn't work properly after I upgraded. I don't like leaving my players hanging.

Though, if I simply overwrote, I wouldn't have had that issue anyway, so it's a catch 22 =P

Well this may be your problem - you need have a single "default" directory called "C:\EQEMU" inside C:\EQEMU, you need to have quests, maps, pluggins, etc. but the executables should reside in "C:\EQEMU" (I'm trying to make this as simple as possible for you, so it works and we avoid confusion).
You can always copy the old binaries back if you are un-happy with the new ones. Or better yet, you can make a new directory in C:\EQEMU and call it "backups" (C:\EQEMU\BACKUPS). copy everything in there before you add updates, so you have a working backup.
