Okay, here is my procedure. See if anyone could tell me where I went wrong.

This is Yesterday, 12/7/2004

#1. I got an account, and got it activated.
#2. I did a full install on EQ and fully patched it.
#3. I went and created a shortcut on my desktop to "C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest Trilogy\eqgame.exe" patchme
#4. I changed my eqhost text to read:

[LoginServer]
Host=eqemulator.net:5999

I made quadruple sure there was no extra spaces. Then I made the file write-protected.
#5. I went to MicroSoft's web site and updated to ActiveX 9.0
#6. I updated my drivers to handle 9.0
#7. I loaded EQ and got all the way to the log in screen and I timed out trying to reach the server.

Any suggestions?

Your eqhost.txt should read:

Code:
[LoginServer]
Host=newlogin1.eqemulator.net:5994

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE EQHOST.TXT FILE!

This should help the newbies figure out how to play eqemu without any problems (hopefully)
