Default How much RAM needed?

I'm sorry if I missed this information somewhere. I tried looking but didn't see anything about it.

I'm a student, and will be setting up my first Linux server soon to tinker and learn. But aside from learning Linux and coding, I want to also use it for a home EQ server (totally private, for now). But how much RAM will something like that require on an Ubuntu server? The stuff I'm learning in school won't need a lot of RAM, but I don't want to be underpowered for EQ.

Thanks in advance for any help.

So do you think 8 gigs of RAM is enough for a Linux server to run EQemu? That's how much I planned to get.

I was running the install script and had a problem with memory. I had a 1GB VPS and it would fail the compile. I increased the VPS to 4GB and then ran htop to watch it.

The compile went just over 1GB in memory, but not by much. Ever since the compile has been complete and the server is up and running, it's been less than 1GB the whole time. Right now it's at 947MB and I have several other things running, as well.
