Default Any solution to blocked ports?

I think my ISP might be blocking certain ports on their modem/router. Does anyone know of a workaround for this so that i could host a server for friends and family across the country?

Thanks

If it really is blocked, you could setup a VPN endpoint easily enough to get them onto your network.
