Default 33+ in zones causes ms rise/eventual boot

Any reason or fix to this?

used to work fine before the lag problems with the packet resend thing, since then and even after mainline fix I have downloaded a fresh server and even those battle the same problem.

Any idea what could be causing this or a fix to it?

Thanks in advance

It's a known issue .. and, unfortunately, we don't have a solution for it atm.

Two of our devs worked months on end trying to isolate the cause of that to no avail.

Part of the problem is being able to reliably reproduce it. (It only affects windows servers...)

Can you post a few things about your server?

* Are you running it on a local computer or a hosting service?

* Does it run on the main os or in a vm?

* Are you using pre-compiled binaries (eqemu_server.pl/installer downloaded) or do you compile your own?

* Are these BOTS or non-BOTS binaries?

* Can you post a few examples of zones being affected by this?

I was always curious about this particular issue. I remember way back when Akka announced on the EZ forums that they had switched over from windows to linux. Has this been a problem throughout the history of Emu>windows ?

There is an issue with Windows Server 2008+ surrounding the ppm settings.

A recent user with this problem tried setting that to High Performance and it didn't help him.

Very obscure bug...

I agree with you on that. People like you, myself and many others have the knowledge to easily create a linux box, but that "easy installer" is attracting a lot of people who are a total noob to much of that technical side of computers.
It's something they need to be aware of, if they have "dreams" of having a public server, and what they may be up against with a windows box. (The wiki doesn't tell them this stuff), lol

Ya, I had my server going in 2010'ish, but I didn't have a big population, so I never saw 30+ players in one zone at a time. I love to be able to experience this (test), but it makes it kind of hard, since a test box would need those 30+ test players, lol

ive had servers going well before akkas repack was a thing
(took forever bc i suck at this tech side stuff)

but the one(s) i have been talking about have been akkas repack. Never had this problem until that forum though...wonder why they didnt see when it started happening around and just looked at what got changed around then.

again though, seems like someone put a 0 where a 1 should be

but my server runs on a local computer but is public ( i connect public also)

runs on main os, pre compiled , not bots...

a zone that seems to work well and get the problem to show quicker is crescent reach...for the life of me idk why....granted alot of npcs in zone but there are tons, and even zones like say...tov... gets this problem to yet it seems to be effected slower (problems slower to start and compile) despite seemingly more mobs in zone and id bet more #events

literally feels like not enough ram or to many checks or something....point being though this wasnt always a problem for me and thats why its weird

i can reproduce this problem anytime i want btw if you have more questions lol

Fix is to go to Linux. It's unfortunate, but we haven't been able to track it down under Windows.

Hitting larger numbers on a server was easy before p99 existed

I always make reference to this old post, when some people ask one of those infamous "what kind of hardware do I need ?", questions.

(reading through it and noting the last post on the thread)
