Default problems casting spells on player character

Hi there,
I`m having a little trouble with spell casting on my server. I searched the forums for a soloution a found a post concerning an issue with maps. I downloaded the maps file from sourceforge and this solved most of the problems I had with spell casting but I still have an issue with casting spells on my own player character.
Buff spells seem to work ok, they cast and the effects are updated when I check in the inventory window, but direct damage and healing spells don`t seem to have an effect. If for example I cast a DD spell on myself, the spell casts, the assosciated text appears and my mana decreases by the correct amount but no actual damage shows up either in the inventory window or on the hitpoint bar. The same applies for healing spells..mana is used but no change to the hp bar or in inv window.
DD spells work ok on mobs and I can see the hp drop for the targetted mob.

Any help/hints/advice on this would be appreciated,
thanks Steff.

I think I understand you right...

A direct damage spell on yourself that doesnt do damage is actually a good thing and I'm not even sure why or how you discovered that And I would say that even if thats not intended, leaving it that way should make people happy.

It may help to list the actual spells you are trying or at least one that you see the problem with. Your health won't change at all of course if your hitpoints are at max and you cast a heal. I am going to assume that you are low on health when you test the heal spell right ? If that spell is having no effect then come back here with the spell name, and what the spell should be doing by its description and we can go from there.

Hi there,
I made a GM char (shammy) which I levelled to 65 and scribed all spells to check this out. None of the healing line of spells (minor healing, light healing, healing, greater healing etc.) work properly, as i said the spell casts, mana is used, the messages assosciated appear in chat window (you feel a little better, you feel much better etc.) but hitpoints are not changed either in inv window or on hp bar. Also it doesn`t say you have been healed for xx. And yes, the healing spells were cast when damage had been taken and the damage showed up in inv window and hp bar.

As for using DD spells on oneself, I have done this in the past to raise evo skill...probably useful as you say, but if the problem is linked to why heal spells don`t work then I can live with the prospect of landing the odd DD on myself .

Any obvious thoughts spring to mind re. this problem?
Thanks, Steff.

I can't recall ever seeing this problem before. I would suggest grabbing a fresh database, maybe an empty one and trying it in that world to see if its database related or some weird client issue.

Quick update on this problem... I have played around a little more ingame and have come to the conclusion that it isn`t the spells that are the problem...it is the hp bar and inv window not updating the hitpoints properly....will continue to play around and see if I can come up with a solution.

Even on PEQ there is a problem like that. The lifebars of NPCs and PCs can be delayed or in some cases its necessary to "reClick" on the subject to get its true HP%.
