I need some help/feedback good samaritan

Firstly thankyou to all those that have helped with my teething problems.

What I have:
AMD 2600 athlon, 512mb ram, 40gb hd
2048/256 upload download 100% stable aDSL.

A basic knowledge of C++
And 8 years knowledge as an admin of a text based roleplay game.


What i'm looking for, its basically the same reason I created my own rpg a safe place with fairplay rules for me and my wife and friends.

A stable setup that i can just create our own little comunity I dont mind abit of work.


I know its alot to ask but would any server admin be willing to hold my hand show me how to do it is it asking too much to ask for a copy of a stable server?

Now before I get hit for asking that, let me explain why.

8 years ago my wife who was 21 at the time was diagnosed with cancer, now i won't go into details but she went through all the treatment available and in now in the situation of no more treatments taking a drug for the rest of her life that is a catch 22, (interferon) in theory the drug keeps the illness away but as with alot of these types of drugs has really bad side affects no details are needed just to say one day the side affects will be greater than the 6 months left without it. she is already very disabled.
no pitty please we love each other we do everything we can together.

Online gaming is our life after all we can fight monster we can kick ass and explore worlds where every illness can be cured and death is never permanent.

We have played in meridian 59, UO, EQ, SQG, AO, DAOC, Neocron even EQ2.

But always the same problems, how do you explain to those your grouping with that your wifes char hasto go afk for an hour and you don't want to gain xp so you both stay at the same level.

and when your wife puts in her energies to make friends and then when you think they are okay and ask about ooc you mention cancer and they run.

just to have a place of our own that afew friends can join group together, peopel who understand us, to recreate our EQ1 chars.

This is not an excus im not lying and im just explaining the why of my question, we aren't looking for eq live damn thing was too hard anyway lol.

oh and no i shouldn't haveto do this but a certain game we hadto leave because a rumour was started that it was all a lie. (while i may have the energy to try out and play on others games she doesn't)

I dont want to get you down any futher but it's a lot of hard work running a server with no real rewards.
expect less with more hassle.
you spend hours and hours making stuff only to have someone complain that something else aint working right...
something to think about.
if you have all the time in the world have fun
but if i was you I's play on wr or someplace that is already built
because it's just a lot of hassle and cpu waste/bandwith for just lan players the databse PEQ is good but lack expansions and quest you have to packet collect them all unless you can get people to do it for you.
lots of reasons not to run one but have fun if you do.
just on quest alone I have about 150 hours and im probbly only done with a handfull of zones.

I dont agree with this.... Running server dose take alot of work and if people was to complain about the bugs and problems go tell them you go play like this is free software and then kick and ban them.

lol you must not of play eq for very long . I played eqlive for 3 1/2 years and still kinda play. The reason i am with this project is because you can do anyhting you want no limits... A place that is already built kills that...

My server that runs the emu has quad PIII xeon(500Mhz 2MB cache 100FSB x4=2Ghz) with 1GB of RAM(256 per CPU) and has 3 power supplies. ALso has a custom database. woooo lol I know it sucks but it get the jop done.

If you have the CPU and RAM to do it i say why not

The link is to a pornsite, and causes huge redirections. Link is very, very suspicious, and support for the porn site will not be allowed to continue. Link removed. Redirections = advertising, and advertising = revenue, and our boards are not meant for that.

That site is my site I run greyarchive.org its a no censorship adult fiction site NO advertising no pictures no pop ups BUT
the part i put that url too is a front basic html menu that leads to a game and my wifes non adult story site. (all the adult parts are password protected)


Warning if you came up with pop ups then you have spyware on your pc that is picking up the name greyarchive.

THE GA has been going for 9 years its the only adult fiction site out there that never sold out to advertisers etc funded out of my own pocket and donations.



can someone else give me feedback on this I have scanned my site for tags etc there is nothing in there on my end.



how ready and stable is the basic EQ emu + basic PEQ Dbase

if all you want to do is play get a few friends on.


The problems im coming up with on my install is this
dark elfs in cleric guild getting beat up on by guards
leaving the necro guild the two ghouls stationed outside go medieval on my ass.

little things like that, major disconnects on zoning and then the game not showing up on the list of servers till you log out and back in.


like i said all im looking for is a Dbase and code to setup and play on that has the simple prerequisits of somewhere for 6-8 mature adults to play on and level.

This is a grave insult to me but i point out that my site has no advertising no pop ups it is all basic html. please check your system for spyware etc that recognises keywords etc.

One thing i did forget, i have my site hotlink protected because of leachers etc.

I do not have spyware. I use linux :P So don't blame spyware. I may have insulted you, but as a board moderator, I reserve the right to remove links that I feel are unnecessary or unfitting of our forum. Don't take it personally, please. I don't mean to disrespect you or your wife for hosting legitimate fantasy pornography. I don't agree with advertisements (and pornsites are notorious), and the redirections struck me as unsuitable/shady.

Your current link is valid, and I'll reinstate it. I was just making sure you weren't trolling the boards to place an ad/link for porn. I like to keep the boards clean.

Clean is what your new link is. The old one sent me redirecting in Netscape 7.1 in Linux (no spyware, keygrabbers, etc.)

No need to apologise i've had the same problem on my forum, you acted correctly beter to be cautious there is alot of good people here and its too easy to get spyware etc by being directed to the wrong places.


Anyway what i'm basically looking for is a dbase and server that i can just stick on my system, my wife and a couple of friends can log on and kick ass.

OR

someone who can step by step guide me through it.


I have a clean Dbase
a 6.0 sever setup
a adsl 2048/256 connection


the problems are crashes
zone crashes
server only showing up intermitently
on server page
major disconnects on zoning
crashing of maps

Like i sadi i don't mind if its custom or normal.
