Post Minimum Requirements

I've been looking into making my own server, and this would be a first for me, so I'm fuzzy on the details, and can't seem to find them.. One of which is currently: What are the hardware requirements to run a server?

I have an older tower, running Win 10 x64, with an i5 and 4G Ram, and am curious if that is sufficient to run a public server. I assume the GPU is irrelevant for server hosting.

If I'm just blind and missed this answer somewhere, sorry >.<

More than ample, in my experience the HDD is the most important factor as you'll be taxing that puppy with a lot of reads and writes.

I wouldn't expect to host a server with a large population with only 4 gb on win 10..

..but, that being said, bandwidth (especially upload) is usually the limiting factor.

lol, yeah, outside of p99, the populations are pretty low.

I appreciate all the replies. This helped a lot.

Is Linux a better OS for this type of thing? Any advantages?

Small servers, whatever you're comfortable with.

4g is sufficient if you use server Core which negated about 2.5gb worth of operating system stuff.

Edit: you said windows 10. nevermind.
