Default Freeze

I have read a lot of posts and have found similar problems listed but not tailored exactly to mine. I can log into the server select just fine. When I click on a server and hit join server, the server select screen stops responding and freezes. The server list is still there but I can't click anything. I waited about 10 minutes for it to do something and then I did a ctrl-alt-del and it said the program was not responding.

I have done my best to search out this problem in the wiki and in this forum but have not found a probable solution. If I have missed it anywhere please inform me. Otherwise, can anyone shed any light onto my problem?

I'm told it could be that I need to open the ports on my college's internet. Is this a viable solution? If so, which port? 5998?

It's not size that counts; it's how you do it
look back at my posts so you see how. I have posted info on everything mentioned in this thread.

Technically, when you connect to server, only the server needs inbound ports open, are you trying to connect to a server you have yourself? Also, the college internet could be a problem. I know a lot of colleges/universities that block ports and access to certain 'items' .

No, I'm trying to get on CoHpvp beta server. My college blocks bit torrents as I'm told. Is there another port I could connect to or is there a way around this?
