Arrow P99 Clone

I've read here and there that you can clone servers. Is this true? Could P99 be cloned and be played on by two-dozen people only?

Just curious. Thank you.

If you could clone p1999, there would be at least 20 of those around.

Cloning refers to someone taking the time to create their own version of a server, not a literal piece for piece copy. As Provocating said, if that were possible, everyone would have their own version of their favorite server that fits their play style.

That would be ideal. Friends and I have been on p99 for a couple years and haven't seen Naggy/Vox or any raid boss for that matter. It's a sad state of affairs. To give an idea how messed up the raid scene is, they only allow elite raid guild members to post on the raid forums. All members can view them, but are not allowed opinions (post privs). We might just suck it up and start our own server, but devs rarely get to enjoy the game from my experience.

Thanks for the responses.

The server code is pretty stable and peq's content is highly expansive.

There's nothing that requires you to do anything other than play..unless, of course, you want to 'develop' content.

Admin != Dev

I meant the ability to, on the fly, import and export entire DB's. I'd love my own version of EZ server, or even p99 to play offline while on trips with no interwebz. I feel like this has been discussed before, and I'm not entirely sure the practicality of implementing something like this, but I think the concept is awesome.

You would have to convince the people that have put years of work into their server to give you copies of their code and database so you can fire up a server that might strip half their playerbase... probably a hard sell.

Correct. A server admin's work into their product is what sets the apart from others. If you have a constant 1000++ members a night, why would you risk reducing that down to 100/200 players once others opened up theirs? I am sure they do share some things but they pick and choose. This is like an unpaid job for them.
