Most likely its a problem with the install and not the shortcut itself.

If you're fresh installing (never had EQ before)
1. Install EQ
2. Change desktop shortcut to include the anti-patch.
3. Change the hosts.txt
4. Run it.

If you're installing a seperate EMU install and have live also installed.
1. rename C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest to C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest-BK
2. insert EQ CD's -- run the "repair" feature.
3. Rename the new EverQuest directory in your sony folder to "EverQuest EMU".
4. Restore your EverQuest-BK to "EverQuest"
5. Create a new shortcut on your desktop to your EverQuest EMU dirrectory with the anti-patch (patchme).
6. Change hosts.txt
7. Play the game.

Note about Vista: If you're running vista and install EverQuest ANYWHERE but your Program Files you will not be able to set the shortcut to `"C:\somewhere\EverQuest\eqgame.exe" patchme` because of its "security" features -- so it is very imparitive if you're using Vista that you install EverQuest somewhere in your Program Files.

Very Informative, 1 question though.

What do you mean when you say

"Change hosts.txt"?

Just i thought here, not sure if this is helpful info but,

i would try going into properties on the shortcut and play with the compatibility mode try running it in win98 or something, dont know if that will fix but worth a try.

also, i have noticed, as i am running my own server and have a few friends and family playing on here often, and one of the bigger issues i face trying to get them connected is with the A.M.D duel core,

so this is what we have to do in order to get the game to run on duel core AMD

go to the site and download and install the Duel core optimizer,
http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/...1_9706,00.html

i hope this link works i dont post on here much, and i hope that these ideas might help as well, good luck with it

Thanks, What you told me to do helped me get a bit futher, but now I can't find my graphics drivers, and if I just click continue anyways, it keeps black for like 1 minute then goes back to Desktop.

Aye, this comp's graphic card sucks, but my old and better one finally died on me, currently in process of rebuilding it.
