Default Handy tools I've found useful for EQEmu-related tasks

I thought I'd share some links to various utilities (all free) that I've found useful for various management tasks of EQEmu & assorted databases:

Open Command Window Here (MS Windows PowerToy)
ExamDiff
InfoRapid Search & Replace
PropertiesPlus

These are all fairly small downloads, have a minimal system footprint (tech speak for saying they don't screw with your registry, etc. too much, if at all), are easy to use, & as mentioned already, are completely free (no spyware/adware either).

Just to give a handy example of how one of these are useful is how, when I read that in the .QST (quest) files that "EVENT_SAY {" should be replaced by "EVENT_SAY{", I fired up Inforapid & had it do an automatic replace of all instances of the former with the latter. Took a whole of about 1.5 minutes to process all 1067 files.

The one I use most often with EQEmu is the Windows Powertoy called "Open Command Window Here". It adds a handy right-click context command to automatically open a command prompt in the directory you choose without having to type all the cd... commands.

Yea, the tools you use Greatly effect how easy/hard it is to work on the files!

I love Examdiff pro, think it was $15 to get the non freeware version that adds a few things but mostly for me, per character compares instead of just per word.

Another addition is Ultraedit, and get or setup color highlighting. Or I have heard Textpad is also pretty good. Both are shareware.

Default penguins have some too

here are some equivalents for linux fans :

examdiff: gvimdiff (or just vimdiff for text version)
InfoRapid Search & Replace : sed or perl (command line tools)

probably less userfriendly, but very powerfull
of course, they are not only free, but also freesoftware.

Default As far as text editors go...

As far as text editors go, the two alternatives (to Windows Notepad) I frequently use are:

Both represented there are the free versions, though you can pay to upgrade to more powerful versions. The free versions are quite nice for my purposes though. Very powerful with lots of features (check out NoteTab's library of scripts).
