Default Everquest: Windows - Application Error

When trying to join a server I get this error.

Code:
The instruction at 0x10001c6b referenced memory at 0x00000018. The memory could not be read.

Click on OK to terminate the program.
Any ideas on how to fix this? I have searched around and it didn't seem like anyone had found something that worked.

Default same problem

I'm getting the same error. Running Gateway laptop with Vista. I suspect it might be vista as I have succesfully set up EQEmulator on three prior machines all running WinXP SP3. Any help would be appreciated.

Well if you are using Vista or Windows 7 and repeatedly see an error such as that then reinstall the application and make sure that you run the installer as an administrator otherwise your problems will likely continue. A bad ram chip, registry errors, corrupt program install and other things can cause that problem too so try not to assume it is your OS.

I run Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and am running on a Dual Core CPU. I always get random crashes and common dual core bug unless I set the affinity manually for EQ after I first start the program. Once the affinity is set though, it all runs perfectly.

One thing I am going to look into tonight is getting EQ to start from the shortcut to automatically use only one of the cores. This should stop me from having to set it manually each time.

This is a little thing I wrote up on my wiki that I am going to test out tonight and see if it works:

HTML Code:
Setting EQ to Start using only 1 CPU:

Windows Vista/7 has an option that lets you start an application and set the CPU affinity,
which assigns the application to run on a specific CPU in a multi-core system.

To start an application you have to pass the affinity flag to the start utility in the command prompt.
For instance, if you wanted to start notepad assigned to CPU, you could use the following command:

   c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe /C start /affinity 1 "c:\Program Files\Sony\Everquest\eqgame.exe" patchme

You will need to adjust the path name of the file that is in quotes so it knows where to find your eqgame.exe file.
You should be able to add this line to your shortcut, but I will need to test it and update here if it works or not.

Another note on cpu affinity and dual core processors....AMD makes a Dual Core Optimizer that fixes the issues that can occur with dual core processors and older software. It can be found here: http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/dyna...42f&ItemID=153

DO NOT use that program if you have an Intel Processor.

DO NOT use any dual core optimizer or dual core fix with a quad core processor.

BTW, I tried this:

Code:
c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe /C start /affinity 1 "c:\Program Files\Sony\Everquest\eqgame.exe" patchme
And it worked perfectly

It pops up a command prompt window briefly before starting EQ, but it closes right away on it's own. Other than that, it works just like starting EQ normally and sets the affinity as can be seen through the task manager after starting EQ. And, this is supposed to work on any multi-core CPU, not just on Dual-Core. You can chose which processor you want to use by changing the "/affinity 1" to 2, 3, 4 or whatever. Setting it to 1 uses CPU 0, and so on.

I have a Dual Core and had all these problems, had tried all the suggestions here. I had it running to a point where it would work for a while , then I would have to restart the client.
What made my problems completely go away was when I updated (flashed) my BIOS. After I did that, I could run even Titanium client with no help of any applications or affinity's

Default Not working

I have tried all of these solutions. I still get this error:

Windows cannot find 'patchme'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.

I had this problem for a while and what worked for me was changing the computer's resolution... changed it from 1360x768 to 800x600 and it worked fine.

Although you could probably make a less drastic change as well, i just haven't tested it

I am getting the same error and i have tried everything. The only thing that works for me is to manually change the resolution in the eqclient.ini file... if there is a better work around would appreciate the help.

that one is missing the name
that is because you set affinity like this:
C:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe /c start "EverQuest" /affinity 1 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony\EverQuest\eqgame.exe" patchme
