can't load game. error 0x02db1c6b referenced memory at 0x0000018

I installed the game today and I was able to play it. However, later on I tried to load the game again and it would crash after I enter in my account userid and password. I get an error message.

Application Error:

The instruction at 0x02db1c6b referenced memory at 0x0000018. The memory could not be read.

I had this issue for a while, even reformatted my computer in case that would help (it didn't).
The thing that finally worked for me was changing my resolution (on the entire computer).

I went from 1360x768 to 800x600... which worked, but you could probably do a less drastic change as well...
