isnt there a way we could just revert to the version that CD expansions installs EQ to?

No, there is no way to PC thta, and it would be buggy as hell, there would be missing zones, missing Mobs ectect

u can make a private server but may not download the client for it?

It's not about what is legal or illegal. The Developers make the rules for the forum. You may not agree with them, but you either abide by them, or break them at the risk of being banned ... your choice.

As I understand it, the EQEmu server code does not break any US laws, but providing links to download Sony Online Entertainment copyrighted code does, which is why providing links to download the client or older versions of client files is not allowed here.

Sony has the client on their website. There is no need to put up a torrent or have some other location to download Everquest. The everquest software is free now.
