Mac OS X is a beautiful operating system. Say what you will about DOS and such, any OS that is based off of a good UNIX implementation (FreeBSD) and gets the whole UI thing correct is a step in the right dang direction.

I may have disliked System 7.5 and such, but X is a fine piece of work. I suggest you give it a shot, it may just change your opinion of Apple completely.

Apple has to check to make sure something wont crash in any circumstances before they will release it for the Mac OS That is why the Mac OS is one of the most stable OS's in the world.

Mac file systems are rock solid Faceless and its because of this plus the fact that Macs are graffics screamers that macs are the soul choice of many Media Developers.

Mac may not play many game releases but that is because no one can make any games stability worthy of the mac branding.

correction the mac os is actualy the most unstable OS, all the computers at my school run off the mac OS os X or 9 they both suck, they always crash, people loose their files(not by pesky students deleting them in other words they just dissapear), if a a file gets accendataly deleted the whole system crashes.

School computers get very abused sometimes more so by the admins than the students. The most likely cause of files being deleted as im guessing is probably because the school is using gosting software to delete any new files (over paranoid admins use pretty drastic tactics that make the systems worthless) Also Im betting there lower grade machines lower ram and such that are called on to run way to many background apps for the (over paranoid server admins) If you maintain an apple with proper care and stay away from emulators. It will hardly ever crash. And dont tell me your windows never crashes LOL because thats imposible :P

The most common cause of public computers sucking is hard drive thrashing. Constant use on a cheap HDD without defragmenting and maintaining it all the time = hard drive thrashing, and causes all types of other things to 'wait for the hdd'.

Actualy the amount of children that play EQEMU and read the forums is unbelievable, I have 2 daughters that play all the time, and imagin if someone has a Jewish boss and wile there checking up on the forums there boss walks by and reads that. People dont think of the all the what ifs, like what if one of the 10 year olds that play come across that post then ask there parents what it means and there parents get pissed and come after the Devs. They cant do much other then complain but why set ourselfs up for problems. when we can just avoid the situation?

Back on topic, you can't (shouldn't at least) be legally obligated to keep people with stances that individuals may find offensive off your board. The children argument is the only sane one, and I personally think that people need to explain to their children about people with strange viewpoints early so that they just don't get abducted by cults or something, ESPECIALLY were I to allow my children access to the internet at large (which I know for a fact to be full of people weirder than Jacko).

It's within the rights of the boards moderators to ban/moderate based on the post and/or poster. There are alot of children that play here, and while you can't protect them from idiots all the time, we can at least filter the amount that comes through.

I did the same exact thing, my computer had said ,,|,, and died on me. So had to replace my HD, Mobo, Memory. Well that being said I had to reinstall EVERYTHING onto my HD. Though I am in a raiding guild with Zatrekan, I really wanted to play EQemu. There was no way to restore to a set point, so I hope that the Devs come up with an update to help the retards like I, who installed after Dec 18th or decided not to listen to the devs and patched away

I am also glad that the devs made a reply to Faceless. I am 22 years old, dont have children, but I found that as a pointless post and really immature.

Hello all, i was posting for a little help with doing a system restore. I do start > programs > asscessories > system tools > then i have an option of doing A disk cleanup, Disk defrag, backup, character map, getting started, scheduled tasks and system info, NO system restore. I was hoping someone could give me any info... if they're having the same problem, know any good places to find system restore, etc. I've searched in windows explorer, but I cant find it. I know i'll eventually find it if i keep looking, however that'll take me a few hours of non-stop searching :( . Please, i'd appreciate any help anyone can offer.

i dont think hes running XP cause XP came after they started puting system restore on computers most pcs from before 1998 wont have system restore

It'd be really helpful to some people to say exactly what you need to do to play the game now that the new patch has come out. I actually got the patch before I knew it would break EMu but I did the system restore (more than once, after experimenting a bit, to be honest.) Now I'm fine and it's as if the patch never happened. BUT! See I see you guys saying to "back-up" your existing EQ folder and to "replace" a couple files. Dont get too technical on me buds, I don't exactly know what you mean by that.. details would be nice.

Can someone just say exactly what you need to do before you run the patch, and then what it is you need to do afterwards? To back-up a file means to what? To replace means to what?.. replace the old files with the new, or the new files with the old. And by backing-up the file do I just copy the entire EQ folder and have it be called "Copy of Everquest"? Then what am I suppose to do? These terms you people use are just beyond me! Anyways, help would be again, nice. :wink: Without your help, I'm lost 8)

If you have already patched there is NOTHING you can do other then wait. the system restore is a way around it, but what there not telling you is is restors your whole HD back to that point so you loose everything you did after that. If you did not make a back up copy of your entire EQ folder you are SOL, just be patient and wait for the Devs to catch back up.

EDIT=

scrubj the easiest way to make sure you can play on both live and EQEMU is to back up the entire EQ folder once you know it works with the EMU, then you will have 1 that you play live with and 1 for the EMU. For instance I have 4 EQ folders, 1 for 4.4, 1 for 5.1, 1 for 5.2(or whatever is the current) and 1 for live. This way I will always be able to play E<U and live.

After reading this thread for a little while, all i can say is: ROFL...it really cheered me up, it is funny when you read some comments.
But to the point. I wanted to help out a little.

First of all, I'd like to give a big thanks to the dev team, you guys are awesome, I never expected this project to come this far. I hope more people will encourage the devs and less people will whine, complain and post halarious but stupid posts (we all know whom I mean).

We should simply ignore the morons.

Back to the post asking what backup is. It's basically copying the whole EQ directory in working condition to another hard drive or a DVD.

I'm in the same boat as everyone else, I had to reinstall WinXP and then recently got a new HD, so I installed EQ on the 18th and HAD to patch. I'll be waiting patiently until we get a fix.
