Would love to create a new server with RoF. Any progress or is there a place I can get a compatible version of the client to test with?

There is currently no way to legally acquire a compatible client, I apologize for the inconvenience.

I can confirm that downloading the current daybreak installation from steam is non-functional. I'm interested in joining in with the EQ Emulation world for old times sake and I'd like to know where to obtain a compatible client from.

Try this
 

Step 1 - Install - https://dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/download/dotnet/6.0
Step 2 - Download - https://github.com/SteamRE/DepotDownloader
Step 3 - Navigate to where you downloaded DepotDownloader and extract it to its own folder.
Step 4 - Open CMD Prompt, for Windows press Windows Key + R and type: CMD, press Enter.
Step 5 - Take note of the exact location of your DepotDownloader, in the Command Prompt window type cd <location of folder> for example, if your folder is named DepotDownloader and is in C:/DepotDownloader, type: cd C:/DepotDownloader
Step 6 - Type in the following: dotnet DepotDownloader.dll -app 205710 -depot 205711 -manifest 1926608638440811669 -username <user> -password "<pass>"
Replace <user> with your username ie player1234 not <player1234> and enter your password inside the quotations, ie "password1234" not "<password1234>"

Let it download, it will download into a folder inside DepotDownloader. If it fails or hangs during the download just rerun the same command above. If your CMD window is still open you can just press up and enter to redo it.
Having to do this multiple times may lock you out for accessing too often, you can bypass this using a different Steam account login and it will continue in the same folder.
If you have Two-Factor Authentication you will need to enter your code, you can bypass this by replacing -password with -remember-password and you should only need to enter the code once.
