Liquest, jump on The Irreverent server and go...
It's the best way to get into the game agin fairly quickly and if you get to go back to PEQ then you'll have a lvl 70 character on The Irreverent. I'm on there as Savnok. The one thing I don't like lately is how Custom getting your epic 2.0 is but they claim thier reasons for making it so. 5x experience and STABLE unlike the other accelerated servers. Some of the others are so buggy it's crazy. Merry Christmas and Happy New Years ...after the Merry Christmas. |
I tried the Irreverant but the people there were very nasty. I simply wanted to ask a few questions not answered on the web and first off none of them answered. Simple things different between each server such as does the Bazaar work here? Then they got into the whole thing that when the population of server went up it crashed so I logged off so as not to "crash" thier server and
Went and played on the custom server armourus(sp) and have found it quick to get into and fun. While I think the server is set up to award players too easily it is a great server you can jump into spend an hour or two and log out having accomplished alot. |
SWEET!
I can ping projecteq.net, and I can get to the website and forums. Now we just gotta wait for TGC to come back up. Waiting and twitching... |
Apparently its back down again
Server went down for backup as usual this morning, came back up like normal but went down like 10 minutes after......now the website is down again and server still not up OH NO.................................CD q pasa?
merry Xmas btw peeps =) |
PEQ down again. 2 days was a good recoop time. I can go another week w/o it =).
|
All I want for Christmas....
is my PEQ.... Nah, some time away with the fam is probably better anyway.
Merry Christmas everyone!! |
Happy Christmas everyone! Hopefully Santa fixed the server!
|
Merry Christmas.
Is there an update on the server? |
Grand Creation update
Do we know what happened this time with the server? Last time was resetting a power seat or something like that, I was wondering if anyone knows if this time is related, or if its something else? I understand with the holidays and all, it could be a while until anyone gets a chance to work on it, it would just set me at ease knowing whats going on. Thanks.:)
|
Any news would be great. Also, does anyone know if there is a chat room for PEQ? I tried the irc channel for eqemulator but that didn't work.
|
According to traceroute, we appear to be having the same issue as before it came back up for two days.

If anybody remembers, when we were moved to a different building they ran into several various (and oddly random) problems that prevented us from coming back up. One of the which was the AC in the new building was messed up, causing the machines to overheat. We (PEQ) had thought that they have since corrected that, but apparently not. The last time we went down was due to PEQ overheating, and I assume this time is the same issue. Last time I spoke with FNW he says he was told we aren't alone, and that many of the servers in the new building are having similar issues. Real good for business, eh?
The solution is real simple, FNW has to contact our ISP and request a reboot. But, he is currently away (not sure whether it is business or for the holidays) so that is the reason for the delay. Hopefully, he and I can also come up with a plan to prevent downtime like this in the future when he does come back. So, just hold tight. :) |
Thanks for the update, hot servers are never a good thing!
|
Thx Cavedude,
Nice to have news. Merry Xmass to everybody :-D Loeil |
Yes, thank you for the update.
Now I can show my wife that it is not my fault that we can not get to the server. |

if its hosted in a legit datacenter it shouldn't matter, datacenter hvacs are designed to work 24/7/365.
|
Whether it's a datacenter or a hobo's garage. PEQ will be back eventually.
It's like fishing. Gotta wait until they walk up to you, then take your pick and club one over the head. Haul it up onto your shoulders fireman carry and hope you don't inhale any of it's royal jelly. Profit. |

I don't see how hookers and Red Cross makes anymore sense either. :(

It's Giren, I expect such things....

I appreciated the hilarity value of both analogies.

Ringing in the new year w/o PEQ is a horrible start. Let's hope left4dead replaces the void in my heart.
|
Fallout 3 and Scars of Amerous is filling my time at the moment.
Poopie. |
Wow, I've tried all kinda of EQ servers since PEQ has been down but I cant find any that I like as much. :)
|
Keeping my fingers crossed it will come back up soon!

I don't mean to stir the pot (if I am); I have to wonder [a question directed at cavedude or FatherNitWit], is the BIOS set to shut down the machine when it reaches a temperature zone on the processor or chipset? Or is it the case it literally get so hot it hard locks? Discussing the former, these Pentium4-class machines operate at pretty extreme temperatures, and perhaps the BIOS setting needs to be updated. Pentium4 (Northwood and Prescott, not sure about the older Willamette core) are rated all the way up to 75C and 65C operating temperatures. Intel chipsets from that era (865, 875, 850, E7210) are rated between 65c-80c, while SiS chipset (645, 655) are rated for 110c (who needs a heater when you have a SiS P4!) I can vouch for this in testing: I've got a 3GHz Prescott still on my network running fanless with a 0.16cw rated heatsink, and a single 120mm (but 28cfm) exhaust in the power supply, that lives permanently in a 28c room (second bedroom, only one A/C vent unblocked, otherwise no air flow. it's full of folding machines) that hasn't skipped a beat since late 2004. Hard drives are also fault tolerant up to 40-55c. PC2700-PC3200 runs all the way up to 60c in some cases, and not that it matters, but some rambus modules go even higher. MOST ATX consumer-class power supplies are also usually rated at 75c with all of the rails loaded. Either way, I'm just trying to wrap my head around how this datacenter (or office, or whatever it is) is heating up so much it's shutting you down. To me, this situation is unconceivable unless a human is hitting the emergency shut off switch for the grid or your server hardware is simply failing. The only other thought I have is those hot-as-hell rack mounted APC and TrippLite units somehow pooping out. I've burned myself on those shiny APC Symmetra LX pieces of... but I've never seen them shut down due to heat. I have however seen CAT5E skin melt all over a TrippLite 3U unit, short out, put on a dazzling array of black/dark gray smoke, accompanied by a high-pitched noise with a few sparks, a loud bang, then proceed blow all of the line conditioners in the building before we could get the power off to that rack and a class C extinguisher in there. But I'm sure that doesn't apply here. RIGHT? ;) |

As for how it happens, it's part of a server farm with a malfunctioning (or possibly even non-functioning) AC system... Heatsinks and fans merely dissipate heat, they don't magically make it disappear. That heat has to go somewhere, and it will begin filling the room. That's where the AC comes in. Its job isn't really to keep the room cool, but rather to replace the hot air dissipated by the servers with cool (or at least cooler) air. If the AC is not functioning that room will become hot as hell (I speak from personal experience) and the internal temps of the servers will skyrocket since they will no longer be able to dissipate any heat, since there will be no place to dissipate it to ;) I have 6 personal machines that when put in the same closed room raises the air temperature at least 5 degrees in the winter time. (Granted, it is a small room) Still, if 10 machines can do that, imagine what a couple hundred can do! |
My room is cold as hell without my lil heater aka PC heh. They should make the cases out of acrylic and fill them with cooking oil (doesn't conduct electricity), then stick a mini AC unit directly into the cooking oil which triggers when temp reaches a yellow status. That way if both ac fail at least you can fry your french fries in your PC for some good pc flavor.
Either way, waiting is fine but it might be nice if we can get a backup server somewhere and set a script to get database copied to it daily. Then pull it up and run till server up and copy the newer DB back over. Find myself playing many single player games recently though so all is good lol. |
well hell
got ps3 fer xmas so im aight till it comes back up
so ill begaming at least till the zombies come:rolleyes: |
Patiently Waiting
I really hope the problem gets sorted soon. I had just gotten my sister back into the game and we were really having fun. I gave her all my prized gear I have treasured for years. Didnt need it with bazaar finally working. Im finally set up with some decent gear and this has to happen. Ive played a little on Irreverent and thats been a little fun but it sure isnt home.
Heres a song to show ya how I feel about it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsPh_8Dxl3E |
Reminds me of Richie Truxillo that made some corny music like the songs "EQ Obsessed", "Servers are down again" and "If I Had A Billion Platinum". Though at this time the Servers down again is what came to mind.

Shame to see it down, I aswell are a returning player and heard some great things about this server, very eager to try it. But i bet its worth the wait.
Used to play back from Kunark up to when LDoN came out, that expansion just didnt do it for me. |
I too have tried all different trypes of servers in the mean time and none compare to Grand Creation.
Can't wait till it comes back up! Hope we all don't have to wait too long, I just got my son into it. Look forward to seeing you all again soon on Grand CREATION. Ddealer. |
I've gotten a lot done this past month or so. I'm missing the server less and less to be honest which saddens me. I guess it's the old scenario - time heals all wounds. Anyway...
Everyone is probably thinking it but I guess I'll say it. At what point do we cut our losses and move to a different host? There are lots of folks that will donate to make it happen. Obviously the free route would be best... But if the server is down for such a long time that free even starts to look unappealing... What then? Concerned PEQer :) |

I guess everyone just has to make that determination for themselves based on how patient they are. =) |
Back up, just give me some time to get the game server up. With the new mail and chat servers, I have to make some changes to our internal scripts and such.
