Why all the Virus's
 

I am wondering why i am getting so many virus's from Eqemu. No less then 10 a day on that comp. I do run a server (btw). but still .. is this normal for everyone else?. let me know..

No. We generally believe it to be a good thing not to distribute these. So we don't.

Did you disable all your firewalls to run the server or set yourself up as a DMZ zone?

When i first came here i brought up a test server and just did the DMZ zone and i got slammed with a lot of Virus's. If this is the case with you, do port forwarding instead and it will solve most if not all the leaks in your armor.

We never have and never will send you a virus. Get a clue, just because you get a virus suddenly it comes from us?

It may be because of the files "world.pent4" and "world.386". F-Prot (and maybe others too) reports them as a virus.

What's their purpose anyway?

Probably optimized binaries for those architectures..

You can compile code specificly for a processor type to be able to use enhanced features on it.

x386 is the basic model, works on any machine.. Then you have more specific ones for a particular CPU, like athlon-xp, p3, p4, etc..

Gives the programs access to additional registers, instructions, whatnot..

...will port forwarding via router bypass the windows XP internet connection firewall...as in can i have the firewall running if i forward the ports(which i have already done but i left firewall down)...danke

Yes, you can. But its a waste of time, the XP firewall is little better than nothing at all. If you go to http://www.zonelabs.com and look for zone alarm (not the plus or pro versions) you will find a fantastic firewall program for a fantastic price: free.

Hm, okay, but why are they on CVS?

Both start with 0x7F 0x45 0x4C 0x46 (== 0x7F ELF). By looking at the rest of the file I'm guessing it may be a linus lib.

They are probably one of the dev's binaries that got accidently pushed out.

Yea, they might have been mine when I was performance testing with different compiler flags... They're linux binaries, which would explain why you see ELF...

Thanks for clearing that up. F-Prot was constantly telling me that those files could be an "intended or corrupted virus", hehe.

Sorry about that, been having stuff sneak in since I started using the same directory to build from as I did push out to CVS. Need to change my push scripts to make a clean copy of the code directories and import from there..

Could you remove those two files from Sourceforge if they're not part of the CVS, please? Pretty annoying to download 3.6 MB on a 56k line :(
