I realise how mundane and anoying those posts get but I too was once one of those noobs about 2 years ago and I got flamed big time I couldnt tell the dirffrence from the server program and just playing on other servers. (At that time I couldnt get it through my head I didn't need special software to play on servers no matter how many times I read the Faq.) Even the Faq was confusing to me at that time I was really green. Now I understand much more and have even started tinkering with stuff myself.

Mabe we could just delete the threads not ban? mabe an automated filter of some type that looks for keywords how do i download eqemu and derivitives of such? That responds somthing like You dont need to download just do this LINK --to a script that edits eqhosts and adds shortcut with patchme to desktop-- and then deletes the post in a few days

(note: I have almost no knowlege if that is possible but it might be and if not disreguard this)

I think noobies should be encoraged to learn even the dense ones they may yet bloom. Im guessing many of them are yonger age groups that may yet become somwhat computer savy I didnt use a computer untill I was 14 (family didn't have the money for one thats why I was very computer stupid for longer than usual) Now if they start getting punchy and spam the forum ban them if not I dont see the grounds for a banning myself. I see the grounds for a highschool computer class nothing more.

<Note: This is just my opinion and sugestion I am not flaming the idea of baning them.>

Agree, I was green too once. Perhaps just deleting the posts would make the world a better place for everyone. Plus Christmas is coming soon. 8) I do however sympathize with those that have dealt with this for so long. It's like having an eternal 8 year old brother around always asking the same things.

I'm tired of deleting one of these posts a day. There's a Files link next to the Forums. It has nothing to do with being a newbie.

dont ban them, just put a mute and give them a silly title like
'uber noob ninja' or somethin ;P

I'm a no0b here n greener than the hulk, but if theres one thing i know about forums is "Before you ask LOOK!". I too assumed the EQemu was necessary untill i joined and read the forum's faq's n posts, dont hurt to look before you go make a fool of yourself and join the multitude of annoying requests, Forums are an aid as well as a place to chat, use it that way and dont be lazy by asking before you look.

maybe if the new members would actually be good members and read the readme and faq then we wouldn't have these problems

damn looks like you guys have cracked down since ive been gone. good idea tho. if i was a dev i wouldnt want to waste my time deleting stupid posts every day.

I fully support your choice Wiz. I may be a noob but im not that new to forums and I know when to ask and when to look and most people just ask and don't look and that just angers me.

ahem, I just found the site, and had no problems connecting to a server, but I just found no information that solved my needs. EQEmu is really missing a good documentation (imho).

So what I was trying to find out quite a while, was the purpose of the programs in the files-section ( that maybe the main error point that confuses people).
Ok, the server-program is self-explaining, but what do I need the admin tool for? I just could not figure it out, and that is why i am writing my silly posting. It would be nice if anyone gave me a lighter ^^.

the admin tool is only needed if you run a server (it connects to your database and lets you edit it easily)

i am a noob as well an i was able to get all working by my selve. it wasnt easy i may add buti guess if you try hard you can :P

Good thing to do Wiz, too many newbs asking way too much (not trying to mean i am uber myself) but i guess they'll learn real quick

Doing this weeds out all the idiots and is a good idea. People who post threads giving vague details about how they're new here and want to play but don't know how aren't going to liven up the servers at all.

responding to realy old threads is also bannable :lol:
