mikenune 05-05-2004 05:40 PM

I've tried creating a char on here twice and, even though I don't get any errors, he never shows up on my list!

Can you check the DB for a Froglok Shaman named Helpy?

Hope my login troubles go 'way, I wanna see your server!!!

thedammz 05-05-2004 10:38 PM

creating chars

had same problem i patched yesterday not the may 5th patch i patched before that upto date and it worked
but since they released a new patch dont no

monalin crusader 05-07-2004 01:10 PM

DO not patch as of today it will not allow you to play any EQemu server. But this is a very nice server very stable and nice rules its semi-legit but its basically just #zone and #summonitem thats is really all that is non-legit. Exp is the same as normal eq and difficulty of mobs is the same.

I'd just like to point out that the difficulty is untouched regarding the world databases I've used, however they are certainly far off from actual EQ mobs.

Charmy 05-07-2004 05:54 PM

VT mobs that go down after 30 500 point hits... hmmmm

bUsh 05-08-2004 03:57 AM

Server is back up, sorry about the downtime - cable internet was down.

bUsh 05-09-2004 03:40 AM

Server back up - computer was off when I woke up this morning, I think my power went out.

mikenune 05-09-2004 06:01 AM

I still can't create a char!! :(

I have the not-quite-up-to-date EQ patch that allows me to still play on EQEMu servers and can log into and play on other servers (and create characters), but when ever I create a char on your server, it pops me back to the character select screen without the char on my list!!!

bUsh 05-09-2004 10:02 PM

The server is now compatible with EQLive Patch Date May 5th.
Update your client, mikenune! :)

mikenune 05-15-2004 02:40 AM

Thank gawd, windows blows for servers.

-Willie The Pimp

mikenune 05-15-2004 03:32 AM

Only if your'e running Windows 9X/ME/NT 4.0 to run your server.

Windows 2000, XP, and 2003 work great as servers. They're stable, secure, and reliable.

I do agree that Linux and UNIX do make better servers though simply because there's less overhead (as long as you aren't running your X-window GUI). This allows a program to run faster (sometimes MUCH faster) on a slower system.

In the past, people gave Microsoft and Windows a bad rap because it actually sucked. Now, people give it a bad rap because they're allowing experiences that are 10-15 generations old (in computer terms) to unduly influence their opinions. Windows has come a LONG way in the past 7 years.

Some of you may be saying "well, if it's so secure, why is it always getting hacked?" There are two reasons for this.
  1. Windows is SO easy to use that frequently, those who use it don't know enough about the system to make it secure. They don't remove unneeded services, they don't conifgure the firewalls, and they don't restrict access like they should. The only reason this doesn't happen on Linux and UNIX systems is because they have a steeper learning curve and, by the time you can properly install Linux/UNIX on a system, you're more likely to know how to secure it.
  2. Windows is - by FAR - the most common OS out there. While some estimates say that Windows is running on as few as 55%, some go Much higher. Into the 90s even! This means that, if you're a hacker, you're not going to be worring about hacking into Linux or Mac systems. Even using the 55% extimates, you're still going to go for Windows. After all, who wants to work tiwce as hard (i.e.: hacking two OSes instead of one) and still not even get access to half the systems out there!

buss 05-15-2004 05:00 AM

gaah, bush get it up soon.. iam bored and wanna play "a day or so feels kinda long"

qeps 05-15-2004 05:04 AM

It takes a good while to compile :/

bUsh 05-15-2004 12:50 PM

The upgrade is going well - I've got Gentoo Linux compiling on both computers. I'm configuring my kernel on one right now.

If I can get this shit done compiling tonight, server should be up early tomorrow probably.

mikenune 05-15-2004 04:30 PM

Gentoo rocks! We're starting to use it at work now. We used to use Redhat but now they're doing some funky thing with requiring you to pay/register for the updates now!

Oh, well. . . At least you'll have a good server! :P

/me goes back to waiting impatiently

buss 05-15-2004 08:17 PM

okey, ill have to wait then... would be morning soon :)

bUsh 05-15-2004 09:44 PM

Not much progress as of yet - I'm going to sleep now, I've been working almost nonstop on the server over the past 24 hours.

We'll see where I get tomorrow.

buss 05-15-2004 09:51 PM

gah okey, sleep tight :)...

gonna make a char on another server as i wait.. iam bored..

qeps 05-16-2004 07:01 AM

whats happening over there :>. They should be up now me thinks. Any problems?

mikenune 05-16-2004 07:41 AM

I'm still waiiiiiiting! :D

/me begins tapping foot impatiently

buss 05-17-2004 01:46 AM

gah iam so bored, guess i have to do some homework then..

qeps 05-17-2004 03:58 AM

Maybe Bush got abducted by Verant

bUsh 05-17-2004 05:33 AM

Installing Gentoo for the third time on the World Server box.

buss 05-17-2004 06:37 AM

okey, so it wont be up today either?

bUsh 05-17-2004 01:52 PM

Gentoo installed, finally.

I'm working on compiling the source and getting things going.

Greetings Bush,

Really like your server, haven't been on too much since it came back up (I just discovered this community a couple of days ago).

Really nice work on the server, a few question for you.

Does Greenleaf have a website for basic info (rules and regs etc)?

How much from regular EQ does it differ? (is this a question I can ask here? please forgive me if it's no, the message board rules are a little convulated).

I am definitely a casual player and my wife is interested in playing with me. Your server so far seems the closest to EQ that I have seen so far (Scorpions server is nice too but your has been a better ping/lag for me so far).

Let me know if you would like any help with Quest writing, I have some experience from hosting NWN games.

Anyway Cheers to a great server and a BIG CHEEERS to the whole EMU Dev team, never thought I would play EQ again ;)

Nice work!

Mryddlin

monalin crusader 05-21-2004 05:29 AM

I know i'm not bush but i've talked with him quite often when i'm on and i think i could answer some of your questions.

1.He is still searching for someone to create a website for the server... So atm one does not exist. I assume when a website is established it will contain a list of rules an requlations i'm sure, but i cant say that for certian.

2. At the moment the Green Leaf does not differer from EQ Live at all except for the fact that you can summon items and #zone. This server is still in beta fixing bugs and setting up other stuff such as a GM system so not every gm has ultimate power. I believe Bush has finnished that now and is working on a couple last bugs and he is making good progress. But after that from what i've heard he will basicaly be revamping all of the LDoN zones to be custom zones and then it will differ from EQ Live quite a bit.

3. This is a great server far as lag and such i never have any problems with lag. I use to have problems zoneing when the server would have 50+ people on it but that has been fixed now according to Bush's latest patch note.

4. As far as quest writing goes that would be something you would need to talk to Bush about i cant answer questions like that for him hehe.

If you have any more questions feel free to PM me i will be glad to answer them if i can. And if i can i will find out from bush for ya or someone who knows.

bUsh 05-21-2004 07:49 AM

Hi there, Monalin had everything basically right, but I'll reiterate:

Does Greenleaf have a website for basic info (rules and regs etc)?
> I just found someone who's going to start working on it.

How much from regular EQ does it differ? (is this a question I can ask here? please forgive me if it's no, the message board rules are a little convulated).
> Right now it's basically Semi-Legit: #zone, #scribespells, #search, and #si. These commands will be taken out when I launch the open beta.

I am definitely a casual player and my wife is interested in playing with me. Your server so far seems the closest to EQ that I have seen so far (Scorpions server is nice too but your has been a better ping/lag for me so far).
> The server will be more likely Custom (Very Custom) Legit at launch - if you're looking for an exact EQ-like world, You might want to stick with scorpious's server. Just for an example, short races won't be introduced until Velious and everyone will start on Kunark.

Let me know if you would like any help with Quest writing, I have some experience from hosting NWN games.
> I'll let you know, Thanks.
