new expansion

i no u hate when it happens but yes soe is going to release a new expansion called omens of war u can go higher then 65 but didnt find out what the lvl cap with this expansion is they have new epics called epic2s any ways heres the site name http://everquest.station.sony.com/omensofwar/index.jsp check it out might as well to now what they doing i no i will look

animepimp 05-06-2004 08:42 AM

I don't know why we would hate when this happens, I for one like it because its more stuff I can use for free since the Emu doesn't require you to own any expansions :)

Aquelin 05-06-2004 10:12 AM

New epics, eh? According to the lack of screenshots, it appears to be an extension to GoD, of course I can't judge just yet for it is in it's early stages. The task system/custom titles seems like a nice touch, however.

We'll see how it plays through I suppose

killspree 05-06-2004 10:49 AM

I think it's sad. Really, really sad.

aendaar 05-06-2004 11:27 AM

i swear not since luclin has the cover babe looked the same...and as for the expansion..if its any good it might bring me back to EQ...might..

She hasn't looked the same because they're cheap bastards and they don't have Keith Parkinson doing their artwork anymore. EQ, RoK, and SoV all were cool covers. I wasn't fond of SoL, but the stuff after it looks ghey.

As for the expansion...I don't really care about it. Hell I wish they'd quit making them so we could have a single set of code to work with for eqemu. :)

Scorpion360 05-06-2004 01:00 PM

This Expansion actually looks like it will be good. I didn't like GoD at all, but this could redeem itself.

JohnRev 05-06-2004 01:40 PM

Another pathetic attempt to restore EQ's fame. EQ is dying, and almost dead. www.afterlifeguild.org nearly everyone will follow AL's suit, packing up after 5-6 years of EQ and start on WoW. EQ is dead, Sony knows it, however they are still making pety attempts.

God bless emu!

Camphillips 05-06-2004 02:51 PM

actually eq2 > WoW. Dunno why AL is going to WoW, if some of the stuff blizzard put into the beta is going live, WoW is going to bomb bad. I mean Blizzard actually made it so that you HAVE to rest 8 REAL TIME hours before u can level any more after a certain point....umm....no eq isnt going to hell, all their good developers are just workin on eq2

Oh dear lord no...go back to RL and get sleep?!?!? NOOOO!!! :P

Camphillips 05-06-2004 02:55 PM

ya but what if that time period happens to hit RIGHT when ur in the middle of an awsome exping group. Its like "oops o well guys, i know im ur MT and i JUST joined, but hey now i have to go rest for 8 hours" thats lame, its not like u get to choose when it happens, it just happens

Fenix999 05-06-2004 05:16 PM

WoW

Yeah, I for one don't really understand the huge hype for WoW. It could have been good, in fact I prayed for it to be good, but Blizzard really is pushing out a huge player base on this one. Not being allowed to play when you want to play(and gain the same perks as everyone else) is really going to hurt this game imo.

thedammz 05-06-2004 07:01 PM

eq

yeah eq1 is dieing badly a lose of a mager guild is bad from what al said gates was hell cause of all the bugs that soe didnt take care of and with that i agree gates should of ben held back if it was that damn buggy with items geting lost cause of a broken quest that should work i meen what was all the beta for so it could be released with mager bugs i dont think so i have a feeling that eq2 is going to drive a stack deep in to eqn killing it for good cause soe well only focous on eq2 more

dleg6183 05-07-2004 02:10 AM

LOL you don't have to stop exping, you just receive a penalty. WoW will be better than EQ2. And I will give 3 reasons:

1. Sony, the god awful company, is in charge of EQ2

2. Blizzard, who makes excellent games and doesn't ruin something that is already very good, is making WoW.

3. AND my final point, sony ruined eq1 and they will ruin eq2.

thedammz 05-07-2004 02:20 AM

wow

well blizzard makes ok games but only thing i would worry about is hackers and shit like diablo and diablo2 blizzard still trying to get rid of the map hack and they fail every time so hopefly it well turn out good as for me im stuck with eq and going to try eq2 when it comes out

KhaN 05-07-2004 02:49 AM

Too many expansions ruin a game.

The problem is Sony want people to continu play EQ, and for them, people wil only continu to play EQ if they experience new zones, mobs, items, levels. Its where they are totally wrong, what people is waiting is support, bug fix, events, people want to see you are here for them, not just "Hey kid, look at this badass moffo !"

Camphillips 05-07-2004 04:56 AM

lol, whast funniest is that ur bashing eq on EVERQUEST emulation boards. Sorry but Blizzard lets too many hackers in. And there is a reason why blizzard makes games like starcraft, diablo2, reguarl warcraft. They just cant make MMORPGs.
Quote:

ok eq2 has been in development for 4 years. Now then, u are aware that there are TWO completely different teams for eq1 and eq2. EQ2 was mostly bug free a full year ago. Beta is going to be almost half a year. EQ2 will be good, very good imo. If WoW is so good, go plague their boards.

mikenune 05-07-2004 06:36 AM

First of all, I'd like to say that both EQ2 and WoW have their merits. . .

Now, with that being said, I'm going to go the WoW route. Definately. Blizzard has proven themselves over and over and over at making excelent, interactive games. I think they're going to do a great job with WoW. I think their support is going to be better than anything Sony can come up with.

I like their graphics and gameplay better.

But, most of all, I like the fact that WoW is going to have a direction. A purpose.

EQ was supposed to be an open-ended game. There was no point, no all-encompassing purpose to it. All you did was run around and kill stuff.

In WoW, Blizzard has said that they will guide you through the game. They funnel you to different areas of Azeroth. You don't have to go there, you don't have to "do things their way." They just give you bonuses for doing so.

Also, I see in WoW, a lot more GM events and dev interaction than in EQ2. And when the devs play the game with us and allow us to change the world, that just makes me want to play.

Now, back onto the original vein of this thread. . .

There are things that I dislike about this new expansion and things that I like.

I dislike the fact that, like they did with Luclin, SOE seems to be packaging their new graphics upgrades with the expansion. Thos of us that don't buy it are probably gonna be SOL (and no, I'm not talking about Shadows of Luclin! :P). Also, it looks like most of the new zones and areas to explore will be GoD related which will do a big fat nothing for my level 35 Shammy on EQLive. Finally, I dislike the fact that they're still not using the instanced zone technology (introduced in LDoN) for the new areas.

However, I DO like the fact that they're raising the max level from 65 to 70, adding new spells and abilities, and adding more AAs to the game. I also really, REALLY like the task system (I'm thinking of a mini-quest system) to help the lower and middle levels of the game get away from exp grinding.

All in all though, I'd say they're moving in the right dorection with this new expansion. The only thing that I'm seriously dissappointed in is the fact that virtually nothing has come of instanced zones. All the untapped potential there and nothing of use.

Personally, if I'm still playing EQ when this expansion comes out, I'm gonna buy it. By then though I hope to have moved on to WoW or CoH.

Camphillips 05-07-2004 06:45 AM

one of the biggest things that made me DROP the WoW beta testing was the graphics. Their kiddy....they look like cartoon characters. I dont wanna run around doing epic adventures slaying dragons and other beasts looking like a disney cartoon, it takes away the thrill of it. And i DID do beta testing, and ima tell u, and u can quote me, if even HALF of the things that where put into the beta go live, WoW will last a year, and after that people will be done with it and move onto EQ2.

mikenune 05-07-2004 06:48 AM

Personally, I love that style of graphics. It's very reminiscent(sp?) of anime.

As for the rest of your post, you're gonna have to be specific. I've never played WoW since I haven't (yet) made it into the beta so I have no idea what you're talking about. I would like to hear your opinions though!

Allll opinion there.

I'm not too sure which will be better.... the original EQ was the greatest thing since sliced bread (or beer, it's all good..) I havn't really played many Blizzard Games, though I have seen them, and they do look amazing.

I like some of the ideas from WoW , and also like some of the ideas from EQ2 ... with abit of mixing and matching there would be a perfect RPG...

Anyone reckon there will be a WoW:Emu? Or an EQEmu2? I know its very early , very very early to even think about this, but reckon either will have one? I've seen this elsewhere, but

"God bless Emu!!"

The Key word is "Original".

And everyone that is talking about hackers and such. Thats because most of the information is stored client side on their previous games.

WoW will be like everquest where their characters will be stored server side, so unless you hack the WoW servers, good luck.

And to address the "bashing of eq on and emulation board", well I play eq here because it hasn't been ruined by Sony. The server ops here make customized servers, which in my opinion, sony should have done.

Camphillips 05-07-2004 07:28 AM

dleg, everquest in game has never been hacked. When people are talking about hacking they are talking about blizzard games. Go play diablo2 and starcraft, hacks up and down the chart. And blizzard has not been able to fix any of it. the one time something did slip threw sony in eq, it was 2 days before it was fixed, and the people who did it where banned. Biggest thing im afraid of in WoW is the same hacking pattern. If WoW even gets HALF as bad as diablo2 is, it wont be fun.

Here, ill quote myself.

The first paragraph speaks of previous Blizzard games of which most, if not all, information is stored client side, thus making it easy to hack. Mainly because they were supposed to be single player games first and multiplayer online games 2nd.

The 2nd paragraph speaks of how WoW will be run. WoW will have characters stored serverside to prevent hacking. Im sure there will be something like ShowEQ that could happen to WoW, but nothing like Diablo 2. (Ive played nearly all of Blizzards mainstream games).

Ashey 05-07-2004 04:04 PM

The early days of EverQuest were, for me anyway, bar none the most fun, engrossing, thrilling, and exciting times Ive ever had playing a video game...ever...since the the first time I played Super Mario Bros on the NES.

If EQ2 can deliver that again, thats where Ill be. All games get old after a while, thats just how they work. The only way to keep peope from getting bored and setting the game aside is to add expansion packs. But the problem witht hat is that they change the game in such a huge way, that often times aspects that people like are lost, and eventually they get tired of the game since it starts to appeal to them less and less.

Like I said, if EQ2 engrosses me the same way that EQ did, Im gonna stay there, at least until the inevitable expansions start coming in.

aendaar 05-07-2004 05:53 PM

WoW = all hype...its EQ with shiny(er) graphics and a retarded rest function.... as far as i see it, there are only two MMOG's coming up worth taking a look at

Guild Wars, its pretty much the same as the guild wars server here on emu...but without the hemeroid graphics..btw...download the client thing and play the same thing that will be on display during E3

EQ2...we all know about EQ2... EQ2 > everything except SWG and guildwars

Camphillips 05-08-2004 01:58 AM

eq2 is going to even be better than SWG and guildwars (even though iv never heard of the latter)

Sounds like a fanboy comment to say something not realeased is better then something you never heard of.

CrypticX 05-08-2004 08:27 AM

Yet another sad, desperate attempt to revive EQ...

There were a lot of 'hackers' in EQ as well. Until MMOG's are entirely server side, with nothing but rendering done client side, it will remain that way. Every MMOG I have ever played has had, in one form or another, the ability to 'hack' something. EQ, AC, DAoC, AO etc, all can be 'hacked'.

There isn't a whole lot that isn't better than SWG. SWG had a great concept.. but they had very little content.

I was part of a great city and guild on Lowca, but stopped playing because I was just plain bored with nothing to do but hunt Krayts, which I had enough pearls to fill 3 houses and was waiting to unlock my jedi. But im not gonna grind every damn profession so I can unlock a FS

Camphillips 05-08-2004 09:36 AM

yes every game DOES have hackers in it, but the difference between sony and blizzard is that while it takes blizzard almost a full year to correct their problems, sony stops it in less than a week, sometimes before the masses even realize a hack was used. They have stopped glitches from being use within 5 minutes before (I.E. the sleeper fight)

dleg6183 05-08-2004 10:57 AM

again, ill post this....

Ummm, D2 had hacks, people had Ith items, Bugged items that people made, ON CLOSED REALMS, which is server side.... Just like eq, this shows how insercure they just were. It took them almost a year to put a end too it. Plus there were a ammasive amount of glitches and dupes that people use in d2.

dleg6183 05-08-2004 01:02 PM

On free servers which security isn't exactly great because they can't spend the money on them. Not to mention if you notice that on CLOSED servers, you still have some character info stored server side. Thnx la~

Camphillips 05-08-2004 01:18 PM

only thing u gotta keep in mind is the track record, that is only thing we have to go on. Blizzard = very hacked games, sony = very tight security and very very few bugs. Now anyone can see where that goes

dleg6183 05-08-2004 01:37 PM

This is blizzards first MMO, it will be done differently than their other games. Now, you might think "well sony has experience with MMO's, so their game will be better", however they took over, what was a good game, and ruined it.

Camphillips 05-08-2004 02:27 PM

aye but if i read correctly, varrent is back in the eq2 project, atleast their designer is i know that

dleg6183 05-08-2004 03:00 PM

Most of the development and coders left and made a new game company, which they are currently in a production of a new MMO, which I am VERY eager to see what comes of it. They even got Keith Parkinson to do concept art again!!!!

its sigil games if you want to check it out.

*EDIT* Oh I just checked it out.. if you go to www.sigilgames.com and go to press releases, you will see all of the Original EQ members that joined Sigil.

paleequinox 05-08-2004 06:08 PM

If you were smart you would not fall into the old trap of jumping into a new online game right away specially EQ2! Trust me on this one I have made that mistake a few times stupidly enough.

They lure you in with all the fansy glitter, bells and whistles. I think the only thing that has been EQ's saving grace is the pure stupidity of the competition bringing games to market that truely were not even close to being finished, lacking massive amounts of content and even game play.

This seems to be the trend these days and until this ugly cycle is broken don't expect a EQ killer to hit the streets any time soon. If anything it will make EQ stonger as more people return form getting burnt....just my 2 cents worth take with a grain of salt!

Happy Happy! Joy Joy!
