nice of you to give out your mysql password to everyone. i guess you dont care of the haxxors on his forum fuxxor your computer.

Trumpcard 04-29-2002 04:07 PM

Wouldnt matter anyways unless someone set the permissions in mysql to allow connections from a machine other than localhost. They would have to hack in through telnet, then hack the database (on a linux box). Default user permissions are for localhost connections only.

Now, if you updated privileges with a username@'%', then you might have something to worry about..

Bastin 05-30-2002 02:50 AM

Great Information

Ok . heres my deal.

I have No router..

I have windows 2k server with dual Nic's

One for my live address and the other Internal

I have set up the server and it can be seen ( Thieves Den )

but when i try to connect to it ..

INFO .

world server

Live 62.28.3.12

Intrenal IP 192.168.0.1

Other PC on Network

Internal IP 192.168.0.5

i can see my world.exe trying to execpt the connection form my 192.168.0.5 .. not 62.28.3.12

What am i doing worng .

Or do i need a live IP address from my Client machine?

Shawn319 05-30-2002 03:04 AM

You need to use your real IP for everything.

btw, the message board is telling me you have a diff ip (65.177.***.**)

Bastin 05-30-2002 03:08 AM

<grin> Thats Because i am at work

And i Terminal sever into my computer at home.

Don't understand what you mean by everything.

I can see ther server on the login server .. i can see my 5 zone files up.

but can't long in from my Other PC on the network .. because world.exe is intercepting my Local ip address before it leaves my network

Am i confusing myself?

Lurker_005 05-30-2002 05:21 AM

Actually it would appear that your Win2K machine IS your router, otherwise you wouldn't need 2 nics in it.

Bastin 05-30-2002 05:31 AM

That is Correct.

But Since my server maching is also my world machine

with the Live ip address

What i would like to know ..is would I have to set up Nat .. so My

Client ( on differnet computer on network with only interal ip )

to foward all incoming info in port internal 5999 /9000 to liveip 5999/9000

?

just asking .. also building a computer at work .. so .. i will probliity just build the server machine here

*from EQLive Tech Support Site*Here is the solution: EverQuest: Cannot login to the EverQuest server. You may need to re-run the Update Patch. Repeatedly seeing this message indicates a loss of connectivity to the Patch Server. This is usually temporary.
This error can be confusing because it has to do more with connectivity to the world servers rather then the patch server. Included below are ways to troubleshoot this problem based on your connection type, whether you dial up to connect or you use some type of broadband connection (Cable, DSL).

If you connect to the Internet using a dial-up modem then you will first want to check to see if you have a network card installed on your computer along with the modem. If you do have a network card installed as well as the modem then you will want to disable it. Most often network cards will have a default subnet mask of 255.0.0.0, which would cause your computer to search itself internally for the EverQuest servers. Since the EverQuest servers are not located on your computer it will never find them, and you will get the 1017 error listed above. If you do not have a network card installed along with the modem then you will want to make sure you have the proper subnet mask. To check this you will want to click on the Start button at your desktop. In the start menu, click on run, and type in 'winipcfg' in the "Open" line. The IP configuration window should pop up and you will be able to check your subnet mask there. If it is set to 255.0.0.0, then you will want to release and renew your IP address until you get a subnet mask that is something other then 255.0.0.0. Ideally you will want to have 255.255.255.0. If you are unable to get a different subnet mask after releasing and renewing then you will need to contact your Internet Service Provider for further assistance.

The same mainly applies to broadband connections as well. Most troubles with the 1017 error come from improper subnet masks. You will want to be careful of multiple network cards in a single machine. Even though one may be set up properly to connect to EverQuest, the other could be defaulting the subnet mask to 255.0.0.0. You will be able to check your subnet mask the same as listed above.

If you are running a firewall or proxy server and are receiving the 1017 error, then please visit our Firewall Configuration Solution to find all the settings to configure your Firewall to be able to connect to EverQuest.

Here is the problem or goal:
Cannot login to the EverQuest server. You may need to re-run the Update Patch. Repeatedly seeing this message indicates a loss of connectivity to the Patch Server. This is usually temporary.

Error 1017

Dunno if this will help. I'm going to call my isp about it tomorrow.

Orre 07-15-2002 03:45 AM

meliudaj, i really really tried to follow your post, but since im not very good with computer software, i didnt really understand the bigger part of the post :(
I was wondering if you could perhaps post a "newbie" reply in which you tell me, in an "easier-to-understand-for-newbie"-way, what exactly to do to solve the back to serverscreen problem?
Oh and by the way, even if i did understand your post, i would have problems solving it without any further help since i have no idea what that Cisco you were talking about is...
i would be really thankful for help...

donfi 07-22-2002 02:41 PM

Sorry for posting before reading all the posts or even all the first post but NAT is not letting a bunch of computers use only one IP.

NAT is more like a condo time share for IP's. An individual or corporation would own a number of ip's (My local jc who I have done volunteer work for owns 4 blocks of 254 for a total of 1020.) but still more computers (the before mentioned jc has over 2500). NAT takes the available Public IP's (the ones owned) and tranlates them into internal Private IP's....

HENCE the prase network address translation.

There is a translation or mapping of the external to the internal ip's so that there is internet connection hopefully for everyone who is currently trying to use it. (First hand experiance is that on peek hours you will sometimes not get to the internet if you are on NAT.)

What you decribed is sometimes called address jinking or more commonly address Mascarade. It is often called NAT in low end routers. But, anyone who has worked on a network will be as quick as I have to explain the difference because we hate the marketing dept's that screw the public by telling them they are getting something they are not.

NAT for all its drawbacks (mostly the not always being able to reach the internet) works better then Mascarading. Let me explain. If I had 10 computers hooked through a cheap router that mascaraded and 3 people wanted to play EQLive; 2 of them would be disapointed. The neccessary PORTs to play would be in use by the first person. With only one address the ports not the address determine what can be done and each service is normally only set up to use ports in a given range. That is how a Http server and an Ftp server can both be ran off the same machine. On the other hand with NAT if I owned the right to use 4 ip's from my provider all three could be playing.
Only when a both a 4th and then 5th person needed access to the internet would anyone hear a complaint.

Baron Sprite 07-22-2002 04:20 PM

I think somebody needs to have their internet glossary taken away.

donfi 07-24-2002 06:44 AM

To late. I have been working on networks for 4 years. Remember the local JC i mentioned. I was a computer engineering student turned tech.

I have even had to read some RFC's not fun but very informitive.

xxxplosive 10-31-2002 11:48 PM

i'm still getting this error, i tried donig what it says... but whenever i try to connect to a server i make it past the character select, i just get booted to servers (or EQW shuts down) before i can get into the zone...

ive noticed

that most 1017s on a local using minilogin are related to datarate.txt. also when i use localhost in the files instead of the actual ip or loopback i cant log in. my server is running on one of my servers not my main box. 8 is good for a local network setting for datarate.txt.

1017 on LocalHost?

I can't loggin in the server when I'm hosting my own server (1account only), but I can enter other ppl' servers.

I get the 1017 error when I select my server, (you need re-patch..bla..bla..bla). I also changed the datarate, but still nothing.

here are my info, could you tell me why I cant create and enter my own server?

I'm using
windows 98
p3 833mhz
512MB
gforce2
All expansions installed and last time I patched was November 24th. ( I can play on other servers so I don't think its the patch the problem).

What solved the problem for me...

A friend of mine and I tried to connect to several eqEmu servers, and tried to host own servers on the lan (minilogin).

We encountered the 1107 problem quite often, and tried out a bunch of things like changing from "localhost" to 127.0.0.1 in all the files, or using the NIC's IP address, we tweaked the datarate.txt, delete eq.tmp files, patched, repatched, but nothing helped for our local servers.

Finally I managed to login by changing stuff in the miniligin.ini file:
Quote:

# Max 200 lines total (including comments and blank lines)
# Blank lines may mess up the line
# reported in error messages
localhost eqemu eqemu
192.168.0.207 eqemu eqemu
127.0.0.1 eqemu eqemu
localhost admin admin
192.168.0.207 admin admin
127.0.0.1 admin admin
Obviously it has to do something with default entries/values somewhere, but I got no clue where to investigate.
Maybe that's a problem on the eqEmu servers on the internet too.

Another problem I had on the local servers and on the internet (can only log onto one eqEmu server, the Mallorca one) was that I cannot zone, neither by moving to zoneline nor by using the #zone command. I fixed it by using the command "world -holdzones".

Hope that will fix it for you too.
Only problem we got left now is that no items or NPCs are available, but I think we will fix that asap ;)

Hiten 12-01-2002 01:13 PM

The IP 192.168.0.207 from your minilogin is supposed to me my internet connection IP?

Any clue why this would happen?

Anyone know why THIS would happen? I'm using the generic "eqemu" login yet it seems to be trying to log me in as "admin" and tells me the password is incorrect. I've checked the database, it's fine. I've readded eqemu and even "admin" (with several generic 'adminpass/pass' type passwords) but it refuses to allow me to log in - 1017 error

Problem

I am trying to connect to other EQEmu servers, I don't have my own. I click to join, it stays on a pure black screen for about 10-15 seconds then returns me to server selection screen. What could possibly be the problem??

Windows 2000 Server as router

Is there anyway to explain how to setup NAT on windows 2000 server. I'm going to look into NAT online also, but I can't get connected to my own server. Here's the layout of the whole setup

When I start up EQ I login like usual, I can see my server in the list of servers. When I highlight and connect to my server, before I get to the character select screen, it bumps me back to the server list and pops up the 1017 error.

I can play a regular standalone game hosting it and playing it on the same machine, but not host on one and play on the other, while routing on the host.

How can I fix this

Theres a bunch of posts on this... make a dynamic dns name (dyndns.org for example) and use it in your files instead of ip. Then on your client machine change the host file so that the dns name you set up resolves to the INTERNAL ip of the router machine, not the external IP.

Theres a bunch of threads on it, just search for NAT if you need more detailed instructions

Trump, It doesn't look like the login server honors worldaddress=, it sends them to the ip thats connected to it(login). I don't think it was specificly minilogin doing it either.

Trumpcard 03-02-2003 12:02 AM

worldaddress needs to be right under worldname. Dont ask me why. SOmething about the way it parses and uses the file.

I fixed that in the last release in the .ini , but alot of people dont use it, they just copy the one in from an earlier release.

1017

the answer is probley here allready but as i am blind and cant read... i will have to ask..... :?

my server comes up just fine but i am getting 1 error

[Status] CURRENT_WORLD_VERSION:EQEMu 0.4.4-DR1
[Error] CURRENT_WORLD_VERSION:EQEMu 0.4.4-DR1

zone.bat comes up ok... and when run eq (on a different system) i get to the server scelect menu and find my server there waiting for me.....but when i try to logon to it 1017
this only happens when i try ot get into my server from a system that is NOT RUNNING EQEMU.... i can logon to other servers from this system no prob...i can logon to my server if i run eq on the same system as i am running emu......

i am useing a linksys router with ports 9000, 2000-3000, 7994-8000 fowarded to the local ip of the eqemu sys192.168.1.x and the dmz host is on for this system...... any ideas......not including large ammounts of high explosive...grin thanks in advance

ps..... i am useing the name for my system "xxxx.xxx.xx.xxx" rather than the numbers as i do not have a static internet ip and this name stays the same even when the ip changes....... could this be causing the problem and if so will a redirect service help/work??

My situation, I can get my server running, however I do have a Linksys router with NAT support. So when I try to connect to the Evertest server, it gets a 1017 error. I tried to use the telnet commands given by meliudaj above, but that does not work with my Linksys router. I can connect to my router via internet explorer. It gives me several tabs of information/configuration. At this point I do not know how to configure my NAT router to give this command/setup:

telnet 192.168.0.1
password=

I've been trying to look for help on my problem, but have had no luck at all, and I know its possible to fix this
Now, i'm trying to set up an offline private personal server just for my one computer, and I've done everything that requires that, and I can even log on and see my own server in the server list, but when I try to load into my server, it acts like its going to load, but then it boots me back to the server select screen, and a message pops up saying:

"Error 1017: Cannot login to the EverQuest server. You may need to re-run the update patch. Repeatedly seeing this message indicates a loss of connectivity to the patch server. This is usually temporary."

Now please, can someone please tell me how to resolve this, and then i'll be outta everyones hair.

a_Guest03 06-25-2003 04:25 AM

Ben, I've told you that your only solution is to wait for a new version of eqemu that is compatible with your client.

patcher is down, and probably won't come back up. If you didn't get the files while they were available, you probably won't be getting the files. And without the correct files, you cannot play.

Thus, you wait.

Asking for the files you require would violate the registration agreement required to access this board. Please refrain from asking someone to send them to you.

Is there a fix for the 1017 error for people trying to connect to the new .5 servers? I'm not trying to host a server, all I want to do is fix my client. I get to the server select screen, select a .5, and get booted back to the first screen.
