Patch Wednesday
Rumor has it, the patch on Wednesday, May 8th, will bring the "new code" from Test server which WILL break the EQEMu. Please do not patch your EQEMu Client folders (you do keep a 2nd copy of EQ in a diff directory for EQEMu right?). We will NOT be handing out files for you guys that patched. You will be up a creek without a paddle.
Any asking for these files here or in #eqemu on irc.trifocus.net will cause your subnet to be banned from the login servers also. Just a little warning. |
Hmmm....I don't keep a 2nd copy of eq in a diff folder for eqemu. If I'm going to, then where should I keep it? Where is just the normal eq folder going to be and the one for eqemu (ex c:\eq etc etc....)
|
it actally dont matter. eq isnt sentisive to directory location changes.
|
 Will you guys be finding a way to fix the Emu so that if you did download the patch (personally i am makin a backup file) that Eventually you'd be able to play again? and if so do you guys have an ETA on the arrival?

it will go much faster once the servers patch and we are able to collect packets and test it. right now we are working on Test Server. |
Here is some info I got:
Files that make EQGame.exe look corrupt when you run EQW: Currently downloaded: equname.txt equchk.txt Deleted. Run EQW. Username and password wiped so I had to retype them in. Basically that fixed it for me, hopefully it works for the rest of you. Scratch that, character selection looks like hell took a fork to it. And you will still get the corrupt file:eqgame.exe message. |
Running EQ with your desktop set to 32bit color will make eqgame "look corrupt" (ie. wierd colored lines, doesnt load or takes forever)
|
No Shawn, I'm not talking about that. If you run EQW with Windows XP, it will now pop an icon saying eqgame.exe is corrupt and unreadable.
I found a way around this, here is how it works. 1.Run Everquest patcher while having eqhost.txt open(make sure it has eqlogin.eqemu.net:5999 in both login server and registration server) 2.When the patching is done, click file, then save for the eqhost.txt and close it. 3.Run EverQuest through the PATCHER, not EQWindows. This should temporarily fix the problem, EverQuest will only work through this way until they find a way to hack through that code with EQW. If you want an ETA, find out from the creator of EQW and let him know about this problem. Gonna check in on this post soon to see how you are doing. Also, it closes out EQW on Windows XP saying it caused a problem after you hit enter at the login screen. I don't know if it will do it on other OS's, but my guess is it will. |
All the characters and accounts that were on my server went to hell so I had to wipe them, I hope this doesn't happen to the rest of you if you ran the patch program. In other words take Hogie's advice, DO NOT RUN IT unless you want to play on regular EverQuest or want to get rid of your server. It is NOT worth it.

current patch does not work with emu in any way right now. we said not to patch, you shouldnt have patched, if you patched and dont have a backup your screwed :)
|
Yeah, kind of noticed that at the end when I tried connecting to other people's servers. Got the same Hell with a Pitchfork problem at the character selection. Kinda sucks because EQ Live isn't up either.
|
Ack...
Hmmm alright. I'm a complete n00b right now and just came by this site today and I didn't have EQ reinstalled yet. So now there is something in EQ's patch that won't allow me to play, and I get
"your screwed"? Please tell me you're joking and this will be fixed some day. I am very patient and will not continue to prod everyone on the boards for when the next patch comes up, but just because I didn't have EQ installed...bah...had to save as much room as I could for Morrowind y'know! ;) Well I'll be patient and stop ranting. I'm nonetheless looking forward to this service, as I enjoyed Everquest very much...just not Verant and their pricing and expansionism, as I'm sure others believe. /em salutes you warmly |
Ok, if you haven't run the new patch today(Wednesday the 8th of May), then you can still connect to the Emulator servers. There is no ETA on the fix for being able to use Emulator AND EQ Live, so I dunno. I can only connect to EQ Live right now.
|
So,
So, I can reinstall EQ without running the patch and it would still work?
I thought you needed to run it to get the zone files :p |

Mongoose, it's Getm.. :(
Send me an email with anything you need me to do, was going to patch but I'll wait until I hear from you. |
Friend patched...
Ok...well a friend of mine had just started up on eqemu, wasn't paying attention, and patched his EQ. Now if I can find a way to zip my eq directory and give it to him, could he either delete his c:\everquest or just name it something else ie. c:\everquestlive and copy in the one I give him as c:\everquest? And couldn't you just switch back between folders by changing their names to go back and forth between eqemu and eqlive?
|
actally you can give him just the unpatched files ( about 5 of em ) and he overwrite the files no need to send him entire eq.
|
ok...Hmm...so which files would they be? ^_~ havn't d/led the patch yet myself (w/ a backup).
|
I need your e-mail to chat with you Getm. I would also like to know if they are doing anything to match EQ's new code to make EQEmu work again.
|
No... We just all decided to quit... But we still post here for giggles... Hogie and Lyn have only said like 8 times now they are working on it...
|
LMAO Trumpcard. I'm rather immature so I love it when people get annoyed about people who obviously arent as well informed.
|
Heres how i am able to play live AND Emu at my liesure (it's alittle complicated and space cosuming but it works.)
1. Copy your unpatched Everquest folder, and name it Everquest2 then patch... 2.after it finishes running patcher... name The patched one everquest1 and then delete the 2 from everquest2 (change the names BEFORE hitting play button) that way your left with everquest1 (patched) and everquest (unpatched) 3.hit play and have fun.. :D 4.Then to avoid patching your Everquest (unpatched) the next time you play...change it back to Everquest2 and delete the 1 from everquest1.. run patcher.. then then repeat step 2-3. (in case you screw up , which i did once, keep a second backup of the Unpatched EQ somewhere) |
My e-mail shouldn't be hidden, but it's trewr@neo.rr.com just in case.
That's for all of you that wanted to know =D |

 Aaaahhh! I patched. Heheheh |
Welp...Guess it's yet another game down the toilet..
Every single game I've played this week took a shit and they are all for an indefinite amount of time..so now I have nothing to do with my spare time.. guess it's back to writing MageDuel function plug() { http:/mageduel.cjb.net/ ; return; } |
Gith is God
Gith, your genius, thanks man!
this way we can play until the newer emu comes out, i personally havent played the emu version yet, i dowloaded right before the weds. patch, but what your saying is great, but that does mean Ill have to delete eq and install again..... no matter. your friend, Umbraianna :) |
if someone were to download the patch, what files would need to be replaced in order to fix the problem?
|
Gith here's an Idea
Here is basicly you idea but less confusing
1. Take the Unpatched folder Copy it (By selecting it and Hitting Ctrl-C) then rename it to "EverQuestNOPATCH" (No spaces cause dos and windows command window HATE spaces also shortcuts hate spaces too). 2. Paste (By hitting Ctrl-V) and once it is done pasting all the files rename the NEW folder "EverQuestPATCHED". 3. Next do all the steps you need to make "EverQuestNOPATCH" work with the emulator. Unfortunately I found this post AFTER I patched both my eq Dir's (I work with EthernalQuest as well and Have 3 Dir's for EQ sitting on an 80 Gig 4 gig per folder for me) My setup is something similar to this: "EQemu" "EverQuest" "EternalQuest" This is so I can play on Live servers and so I can Help both emulator Groups. Also have a Linux/Windows 2000 Box Sitting Next to me actively parsing everything that hits my network (I am trying to hint my Un-leetness heh). But seriously, I found this to be much less confusing. |
