Arguments about Item Building Tutorial

This is in regard to the tutorial.

Played around with the item thing, trying to shift procs... which led me to ask that you didn't cover what the effectid would be for a proc, only if it's clicky, i'm assuming this means leave effectid blank for procs?

Real problem tho is i can't seem to get anything to save... got the thing clicked on overwrite... but i'm really tired and my brain doesn't work so well (hurray finals week) so i'm probably just doing something incredibly stupid, gonna check back in the morning

thekeepers 12-14-2004 06:38 PM

Atleast you got ur advisor brain :P anyway

Yes leave it at 0 for procs.

Press the commit changes button when you have finished making your changes. If you dont press this it wont save.

Also added this to the main tutorial.

Brain coming soon :P

Cisyouc 12-15-2004 08:39 AM

THATS a brain? I thought it was a nut.

Lol sorry :P

Muuss 12-15-2004 08:41 AM

Download EQAdmin
That program is WAYY outdated. It really is better to use MySQL or if you do not know how to use it, MySQL-Front or MySQL Control Center.

thekeepers 12-15-2004 10:38 AM

Yea it is outdated...and i can use MYSQL easy also but i find it alot faster to make items with EQAdmin

I assume there is no updated item editor out there? I'm looking for info on changing the look of items like the cool warrior epic swords' glow effect and stuff. Anyone know?

thekeepers 12-16-2004 06:56 AM

This tutorial works fine with the current EQEMU release.

watcher001 12-17-2004 12:32 AM

so

are you saying that the current ver of eqadmin should work on the 6.0 db?

Muuss 12-17-2004 01:59 AM

It doesn't fully works, after you passed all the error messages, you can use the item editor.

thekeepers 12-17-2004 07:03 AM

I ONLY use this program for creating and editing items not anything else and it works fine for items.

Cisyouc 12-17-2004 07:55 AM

Still, its not really a good practice. It has many invalid and missing columns.

thekeepers 12-17-2004 08:13 AM

all colums are displayed....and it makes items fine. Alot easier then raw querys imo. You need todo some things manually but thats explained in the tutorial.

Cisyouc 12-17-2004 08:20 AM

The newer columns are not displayed in EQAdmin...

thekeepers 12-17-2004 10:50 AM

Have another look. Yes they are.

mattmeck 12-17-2004 10:52 AM

they wont be after we get current, SOE changed the items once again, so maby he is looking at the new items table.

a_Guest03 12-17-2004 06:54 PM

Hey hey!

What's this ruckus!? I drive to New York, and this goes down! Guys, simple solution - explain the pitfalls of eqadmin in detail (as your complaints have), and explain that it is ONLY TO BE USED TO EDIT ITEMS!!! !!! !!!

Make it a huge point at the top.

Revise, submit, enter as current until next eqemu comes out. When it comes out, we'll recheck the validity. Our main concern is that good advice is disseminated, and this tutorial is good advice.

Let's not scrap it.

Dunno much of anything about EQAdmin and/or how it's coded and whatnot... but how much work would it be to update EQAdmin... from what i saw there were a whole lot of useful things on there and the interface was pretty user friendly... seems like it'd be worth having around /shrug

Suppose theres other programs now right? Mysql or SQLFront or something? (i'm just been runnin commands on the mysql cmd line on my server cause i'm wierd /shrug) I dunno just a thought but at a brief glance it looked worth updating if someone had the time
