good thing eqemu is laying some smack-down, :p I cant wait for the new emu to be out! do any of the dev. out there have an ETA for the new emu?

yours,
eqfan

Shawn319 05-13-2002 03:01 AM

lol nice one, you broke rule 11 :)

11) Do not bother asking for new copies of the emulator before release or their release dates, they will not be given for any reason.

Boogahed 05-13-2002 03:12 AM

ETA= estimated time of arrival

He's not asking for a copy of it, he's asking the dev team when they think its going to be ready.

EQfan2002 05-13-2002 03:36 AM

thanks Boog

yup, thats what i was asking, what the ETA is, im not interested in getting the emu before the release ;) hehe, and Booga, im a girl :D no matter.

yours, eqfan

Boogahed 05-13-2002 04:24 AM

Stop lying!
Everybody knows girls don't really play EQ!

;)

Trumpcard 05-13-2002 04:35 AM

It said right in there

RELEASE DATES

RELEASE DATES

What is an ETA? Its a RELEASE DATE!

I dont care if you are a girl, you still can't read !!! LOL
Uh oh... I think I just broke a rule... That wasnt a flame was it?

Can you articulate the definition of the 'FLAME' policy Shawn?

LOL

EQfan2002 05-13-2002 05:03 AM

jeez

why dont you be mean and grumpy about it? i didnt read it properly. and i wasnt meaning to break a rule, it would just be helpful if things like eta were put up instead of kept secret. of course, its just my two cents.:p

Trumpcard 05-13-2002 05:07 AM

Hmm.. Going to change my name.... Grumpcard...

hehe.. I know, Im just kidding.. Everyone be serious why dont ya!

As far as release dates.. I think it's an unreasonable expectations for free, open source developers to have to make promises on when things are going to come out. Then come May X, XXXX, everyone is screaming about why the release dates not being met. There are no promises, so there should be no expectations. These guys have alot of work to do, outside of their eqemu contributions.

There are no secrets about it, they just don't know.. They release something when they feel it's ready, they don't have a regular scedule of releases (every friday at 8 pm we will release our new version).

They try very hard to ensure these releases are complete, and as bug free as possible. So, in a nutshell, it'll be out when they think its ready to be released. EOS.

EQfan2002 05-13-2002 05:12 AM

i know

i now, and i thank the emu team for it, they make it possible for people with real lives to play, and for free at that. Im just anxious, i havent played the emu yet, i d/l it weds. night, after the patch, but it sounds cool.

;)

Trumpcard 05-13-2002 05:27 AM

I understand completely.. It is a very cool project, and these guys have done an absolutely amazing job so far in managing it. This is kind of a unique situation right now, Verant doesnt make globally big changes like this very often, theyre gearing up for the Planes of Power, so some fundamental changes have been made in the packet architecture thats hit the emu pretty hard. I doubt it will be very long, these guys are machines when it comes to working on this stuff...

EQfan2002 05-13-2002 05:30 AM

Verant

hey, does verant even know about Eqemu? just curious

hey trumpcard, im trying to instnt message you, hehehe, answer meeeeeee :D

Shawn319 05-13-2002 05:39 AM

We dont make release dates or promiss the emu will be released on X date UNLESS we are completely sure it CAN be released on that day (bug free and ready to release).

If you want shotty release dates please try www.ethernalquest.org ;)

EQfan2002 05-13-2002 07:13 AM

im sound like a noob

i know ill sound like a total noob for asking these qustions, but oh well. i havent been in the emu yet so i have some important questions:

can spell scrolls be summoned?

when summoning an item, can you just type #summonitem bread or do you have to do a #searchitem bread and find the id number ?

is nature walker armor available?

is any luclin armor available and can people w/o luclin stil wear it?

any answers would be VERY appreciated

yours,
eqfan:confused:

Everdude02 05-13-2002 07:33 AM

well..

Well here are all the questions I can answer..

"can spell scrolls be summoned?"

Yes, you can summon spell scrolls.

"when summoning an item, can you just type #summonitem bread or do you have to do a #searchitem bread and find the id number ? "

You need to use the ID number of the item.

"is nature walker armor available?"

If you can find a database with the armor in it, or create it yourself using an admin tool for the DB.

"is any luclin armor available and can people w/o luclin stil wear it?"

Same with the Nature walker armor. If it is in the database, you can summon and use it.

Ok, now I see the source of the confusion. I think this statement was intended to be read as :

Do not bother asking for new copies of the emulator or the release dates, neither will be given out for any reason.

Questions of the "hows it coming" nature should be expected. As a professional programmer I hear stuff like this every day.
You have to explain, no matter how taxing it is on your patience, that coding is very unpredictable, especially in a project such as this one where they're at the mercy of Verant's whim to make a change at any time.
Still, telling someone "its done when its done" is in my opinion both rude and unprofessional.
I can see how 3drealms may have this attitude about DNF, since theyre intentionally keeping the details secret, but I don't see a reason for it on an open source project such as this.

EQfan2002 05-13-2002 10:40 AM

"apply for a cdkey"

is there a place we can apply for a cdkey now or is it being worked on?

Nightfall 05-13-2002 12:59 PM

I think they will tell us specifically where to go and hjow to set it up once the new version is released and the liginserver is set up...

Oh, and EQfan2002.... all you need to do is download the program EQW (there's a link on this site) and then edit your EQHost.txt file to point to the loginserver (don't remember adress off the top of my head but I know its on the site somewhere). You don't need to wait for the new release if you don't want to.

Just in case you weren't aware of that. :)

Lyenu X`Arie 05-13-2002 07:32 PM

As I understand it, you will be able to apply for a CD key at http://eqemu.org/login/ . As I beleive that is what we're changing to be the key creation system. Then you'll take that key and startup EQ and go to "New Account" in the "Accounts" area. So then you pretty much follow the steps you have there, and we're gonna have you give us a "CDKey" instead of your CC number, but I think that we know how to change what everything is so it might say this is where you put your key =).

Anyways, you will see more as it gets closer to release.

EQfan2002 05-13-2002 10:52 PM

the cdkey

i already have a user name and password for the emu, i went to the link above, and can neither create a new one nor use my old one to get a cdkey. how will that work?

yours,
EQfan
