Poll who uses which MySQl?

Would like to see how much MySql5 is in use already. or who still uses 4

cavedude 02-06-2007 01:45 PM

You should have an I use all 3 options for weirdos like me ;)

Angelox 02-06-2007 02:36 PM

Looks like MySql5 is loosing ground! Darn, I gambled a lot of money there ...

I've had all three and just had 4.0 and 5.0 tell the other day.

cavedude 02-06-2007 02:53 PM

Replied for PEQ. As for myself, I have a 4.1 server and a 5.0. Personally, I actually like the 4.1 better. Seems to outperform 5.0 on my servers.

So far, my 4.1 on Linux smokes the pants off anything I ever tried on Windoze. I think 5.x, while newer and more fancy, is also slower because of the fatness being added. Good fatness, nonetheless.

I agree 100%

Let me just clarify.

I do agree MySQL 5.0 would be best to migrate to. Not so much for the features but for the fact that it is an active project and not obsolete. EQEmu needs to move forward.

However, I have to admit MySQL 4.1 is faster and uses less resources than 5.0. I won't hide that fact and tell everybody 5.0 is better in every way when it isn't.

As for 4.0, well it lacks the features of the above and also is slower than both. I voted for it because that is what PEQ runs, atm. It's obsolete unsupported software. HOWEVER, I do not want it to be forgotten at first. If a migration to 5.0 takes place, I do not want EQEmu to change to prevent use of 4.0 or 4.1. It should be backwards compatible, for at least the first year or so. Likewise, when 5.1 and 5.2 and so forth are out, I do not want 5.0 forgotten about. People deserve a choice.

Lol - that's ok , just so long as you voted for 5.0, and made the bar fatter too :)

gernblan 02-12-2007 02:15 AM

Believe it or not, I've had the best results (under linux anyway) with mysql 5.x vs. 4.x

I know you target 4.x still, but 5.x is just a better overall experience for me. Less problems across the board.

Angelox 02-14-2007 05:59 AM

I made this thread sticky, and gave it a mild "bump" see if we can't get in some more votes :)

When I started mySQL it was a 4.1. I needed it because PHPbb2 wouldn't accept any thing newer. Then a few months later they did. MySQL 5 is for me the most.

In 4.1 the Admin tool would load tables faster and didn't have an extra table on install. However the quary tool runs faster on 5 when building results.

MS Access ftw.

A little late to the party, but MySQL 5... hang on... 5.0.27.

Gotta have them views...

Richardo 02-20-2007 02:39 AM

I actually prefer MSSQL over mySQL any day.... But when im forced to use mySQL, I don't mind.

Zandig 03-02-2007 03:25 AM

Been out of the loop for a while regarding EQ Emu. I was using 4.0.26 but when I checked on Angelox's latest database thought it best to switch to 5.0.27. MySql 5.x is the way of the future and 4.0.x is not even available for download anymore.

Got it running on 5.0.27 without too much trouble upgrading. Hardest part was getting the MySql service to install properly after un-installing 4.0.26.

All in all, I am now running great on 5.0.27 with Minilogin and Angelox's latest database.

Thanks for the offering your latest database to us Angelox. Its very much appreciated.

I finally upgraded to 5.x+ and it wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting. I only had to make sure it supported "old" passwords. Then I copied the contents of the data folder to the new version and it worked fine. The new tools they released for MySQL are also pretty helpful for getting this installed and configured.

gernblan 10-23-2007 01:55 PM

Yup yup. It's maturing very nicely.

WildcardX 10-23-2007 02:15 PM

Pretty soon we're gonna have to add an entry for MySQL 6...

gernblan 10-23-2007 05:11 PM

From the looks of things, Mysql 6 is going to be a major advance.

6 seems to be a lucky number... waiting on Perl 6 too (but who KNOWS when that will be ready... I think John Carmack from iD software is on their dev team or something lol)
