hmm
Anyone know how long it takes to find out what Ebay's feedback say's about using stolen pictures from this site without providing a link or credit to the source......? I may have mentioned some other things too, but that's the most blatent disregard for credit I wanted to point out on the forum in case the "seller" happens to be reading this....oh yes, that post alone has broken about 3 laws that I can think of right now, try me. *evil smirk*
Whaa..?
I can't imagine a dumbshit willing to pay 75 bucks for a free program.
"It can never be patched by Sony" ? server can't but that's not the point. The clients are patched all the time. |
Plus he said -Never go link dead-
LMAO |
hahahah!! Not only is he making lies, but that is such bull. I say someone emails the bidder the www.eqemu.net website god!!
keep in mind, that this may be lame, but under the GPL this is perfectly allowable. Furthermore, he doesn't even need the disclaimer saying hes just selling a link, he could sell the program directly.
Its debatable whether this code would be covered under the GPL, the license inst included in the source code anywhere that I can see. Just saying it's GPL'd isnt enough, it needs to be attatched to the source code.
That aside, the fact is that this ad is still an extremely good case of consumer fraud (misrepresentation of said goods). Plus, theyre obviously a f'ing idiot when they admit that they're trying to charge 75 bucks for a link. |
rofl that guard pic you can see me in the backround :)
If someone actually bids on that... That is just stupid. Sad thing is someone just might.
Bids stand at a big fat ZERO! just like the ZERO that initiated the auction.
Morons like that give morons a bad name! |
well, if its not a lisense where you can do that, LGPL,GPL,BSD, i dont think its allowed on sourceforge.
we should make bogus ebay nicks and bid the crap outta it (so no real buyers get sucked into paying cash for "www.eqemu.org")
thats illegal shawn...
/me auctions, 'SELLING GET OUT OF JAIL FREE CARD! $5000 OBO!'
We knew this would happen sooner or later :) The guy even had the stupidity to use our screenshots lol (This is one reason to make EQEmu binaries only *sigh*)
I have an ebay account... I could post a auction saying its fraud and where to get EQEmu.........
I am tempted to buy it then report it as fraud.
keep in mind that making it binaries only and you will either be in violation of GPL, or some programers will demand that you REWRITE any code that uses code that they wrote under threat of lawsuits(*cough*). Also keep in mind that it is NOT fraud (unless project is using some "opensource" lisense that is NOT GPL,BSD, etc, in which case some programmers may demand that code be pulled =)).
Do not even argue with me Yodason, anyone who put that code in did so under the GPL and that means that a new project can be created using that code (Meaning I could take the code and call it EQEMu2Cool4U and I don't have to have it on GPL, binaries only!) But that would be pointless because EQEMu would still be going...
and, i just checked the SF page, it is CLEARLY listed as GPL code. Whoever got the ebay pulled should be ashamed for such a BLATENT violation of the spirit (not the letter I don't think, but IANAL), of the GPL.
Well from the looks he wasn't selling the program, he was selling the link to the webpage lol
Quote:
GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE 3. You may copy and distribute the Program (or a work based on it, under Section 2) in object code or executable form under the terms of Sections 1 and 2 above provided that you also do one of the following: a) Accompany it with the complete corresponding machine-readable source code, which must be distributed under the terms of Sections 1 and 2 above on a medium customarily used for software interchange; or, b) Accompany it with a written offer, valid for at least three years, to give any third party, for a charge no more than your cost of physically performing source distribution, a complete machine-readable copy of the corresponding source code, to be distributed under the terms of Sections 1 and 2 above on a medium customarily used for software interchange; or, c) Accompany it with the information you received as to the offer to distribute corresponding source code. (This alternative is allowed only for noncommercial distribution and only if you received the program in object code or executable form with such an offer, in accord with Subsection b above.) |
Exactely, I can do it as long as I give credit to the coders lol (EQEmu is already 'distributed' code, so id just link to that ) :P and its non-commercial, so it wouldn't be illegal :)
lol then do it :D
RIGHT. its legal so long as you include the SRC and you don't put restirctions on redistribution.. otherwise redhat and stuff could not legally sell.. right?
the point is moot, it's been removed from Ebay. :)
it is legal for redhat to sell it, they just have to give you part of the profit... :)
Its like Quake3, ID Software doesn't sell the game, Activision does, and they give a portion of the profits to ID
redhat has to give you part of profit? that doesnt make sense =p
its been removed because it has to do with eq game exploiting/hacking and the like... now his IP has been banned from ebay and also if he logs onto EQLive with any account that accoutn is auto-perma-banned... :)
EQEMU - 1
LAMER - 0 WIN!! |
Dead topic. End of story. Someone lock this topic,it's pointless to debate.
